I took these 2 sleep gummies that have melatonin and collagen in them before going to bed last night. We usually go to bed no later than 9 but usually a lot earlier than that. I am not sure if I was really asleep at first or not - it didn't feel like it and at this point, it was 11:30. So I got up out of the bed and went into the living room and read for about 15 minutes. I then tried going back to sleep - I know I finally dosed off because I remember dreaming but once again, when I woke up, it was like my brain was ready to start the day while my body said otherwise. So I felt like I didn't get a lot of sleep (maybe at the most 6 hours). The problem is that in the past when I woke up during the night, I was pretty groggy and it took maybe at the most, 5 minutes, to fall back asleep. Now, when I wake up, I don't have the grogginess and it is hard to get my mind to just relax and focus on sleep. My wife is on a prescription for Methocarbamol and she suggested that maybe I take one of those before going to bed tonight.

I'm still on the fence about caffeine though - until recently, I used to drink a Coke every night for supper (which was anywhere from 5 to 7) and I rarely had the problems with sleep like I am having now. I did drink a Coke around 5 last night but I am going to try not to drink one past 2 this afternoon and either drink water or lemonade with my supper tonight. I have told my wife that I want to move my doctor's appointment up from May to sooner but she is afraid that bloodwork will come back with some bad things and make it hard for me to be insured (we have a couple of life insurance policies that take effect starting in May). I guess I will just have to keep dealing with this the best I can but please keep the suggestions and tips coming. I might look into downloading some sleep aps on my iPhone to use.

I don’t have a caffeine after breakfast. That switch alone has dramatically improved the time it took for me to fall asleep and stay asleep.

Also eat full dinner. If I am even a little hungry before bed I can’t sleep worth crap until I have a bowl of cereal.

Finally if possible, make your room sleeping temperature around 65 degrees. If too hot or too cold you will sleep like ****.

Otherwise when I wake up in the middle of the night and I am not falling back asleep, I get up and change rooms and lay in the dark with no blankets on until I am tired again.

I'll also add that CBD oil helps.

I get the Mortal Dreads sometimes at night too. It's funny because when it happens, I understand that the situation is not as bad as it seems, and I will stop worrying so much in the morning, but I still will be unable to stop thinking about it at the time during the night. It's really weird... like the night is magnifying the problem beyond its usual scope.

I'd have to like sneak attack the wife and wait until she goes to sleep, but I might try this 68 or 65 degree thing. I do sleep with a white noise machine and it helps a bit.

That's a really good point. I keep the room (I have sensors I can check) at 69 when I'm falling asleep. My smart thermostat will keep it there for two hours then go back to the regular temperature, which is 71. I also have a ceiling fan and a pedestal fan on the bedside blowing on me.

I also have a $2k mattress with equivalent pillows.

****, I guess there are a lot of things I do to sleep well. Most of it is just set and go so I don't think about it.

@Squirtle my electric bill is high, too.

As for my wife being cold.... she's always cold, or hot, depending on how cold or hot she thinks it is outside. It could be 30 outside and 80 inside and she's cold because it's cold outside. Or 65 inside and 95 outside and she's hot because it's summer. So she just gets extra blankets and her side of the bed has a heating pad.

I took a shower last night. I limited my caffeine. I tried to get things dark enough that I could fall asleep but for the 2nd night in a row, it took me forever to fall asleep. I got up at 11:30 and went into the other room and read over 1000 lines of the John Keats poem, Endymion. When I was done, it was 12:30 and got back in the bed. I know I fell asleep because I remember dreaming but once again, it was not good sleep. I am going to buy some Zzzquill today. I am about at my wit’s end with this. :(

7th night with under 2 hours sleep total, I dread each night.....i can't stop coughing......I take cough medicine, and a tylenol to remove throat pain and quell the cough, it lasts about 1.5 hours then I am immeidately awaked with a coughing fit, settle a bit, go back to sleep for between 10-30 mins and repeat....all night long......

During the day, I am a walking zombie.......there are signs that the virus is going away, and if I am standing during the day, or sitting up leaning forward it is a mild cough but at night.....man....I have no clue what do do....have missed 8 days of work already, can't focus and feel like a zombie.

Pretty much this. If I can't get back to sleep quickly, then I just get up and go about my business and go to sleep early the next day.

Rolling around in bed trying to fall asleep is f**king miserable.

First thing I do is listen to a podcast or other audio interview I can find on youtube. For whatever reason these are like lullabys to me. Next thing I know I have to wake up to turn the podcast off.

Second thing, and it has been mentioned already but it is true....fap yourself to sleep.

Important note - the older you get, the more important it is to SIT DOWN to pee if you wake up in the middle of the night to take a leak. Standing up to pee after waking up creates a high faint risk, which can lead to serious injuries falling down face first into a porcelain toilet. I'm serious.

Welcome to the club. COVID sucks. Medium-term, the brain fog is the worst.

The best you can do is just accept that you need to stay in bed and not do anything else. Because what you do try to do may be riddled with mistakes that you have to correct later anyway.

It's a plague. If your partners can't accept that, cough on them.
