I carry Shipley's gift cards. And when the cop asks me for my license, I give him my whole wallet and make sure the gift card is visisble.
a friend was speeding but he was on his way driving from georgia up to DC to propose to his gf. He told the cop, showed him the ring and said "please be careful with that--that's all the money i have right now". Cop let him off.
Always good advice... I don't know if anyone knows where Tiki Island is near Galveston......but it is a little waterfront community and the speed limit is 20mph. It is ridiculous......but what is even more ridiculous is that they radar it religiously and will write you for +1 over.
Always be polite. When your court date arrives request a trial by jury. Most courts hate going to trial by jury and will do almost anything to avoid doing so. Say something like you would rather give the money to charity than pay for a ticket. A lot of judges will take you up on this offer. Though it won't get you out of spending some money, it will keep it off your record. When you get pulled over and are getting a ticket ask if you can get a civil penalty instead of a traffic violation. Again, you will have to pay money but it does not go on your record. You usually can ask the judge this too. There are lots of other stuff, just Google it.

I recently got a ticket on my way to an Astros game. I was driving my gf's car, and she was in the passenger seat. He comes up, asks for the information, and says i was going 45 in a 30. He comes back, has me sign the ticket, and reaches in the car to put the ticket and my license on the dashboard and says "you're free to go." We were in a hurry to get to the game because they were giving out a promotional item (one we didn't get btw) so I just put the ticket in the backseat and didn't look at it until I got home that night. It was then that I found out I was actually going 42 and he also added "obstructed plate" on top of that! My gf does have a sliver plate liner around the plate, but the plate is easily readible. It must be readible because she got a ticket a couple of weeks back for running a red light. How did they get her? One of those cameras took a picture of her license plate! I've tried everything, being nice, joking with them, and even asking straight up if they could just give me a warning.....I'm about 2 for 10...... Pugs
The problem is, is that is blocks out the word Texas. Also, asking for a warning means a citation IS going to be issued.
Sometimes it doesn't matter how nice you are, especially around quota season... I remember one instance after driving for an hour, I decided to go 90 on the speedlane. I got flashed right before it was my freeway exit, so I took the exit and parked at a restaurant. I told the officer I didn't know how fast I was going, and he told me 90. Then he saw my license which was 40 miles away and he asked me if I was a student. "Yes, sir, I'm going home sir." Yeah, no troublemaking from me.... Surprisingly, the Highway Patrolman let me off.
I thought they changed the law 2-3 years back that says you can't have anything that covers your license plate, whether it being clear or not...
