How do you find superstars if you don't play them?

This makes no sense. Then why practice? If experience is truly the best teacher in this situation, why practice at all? People will learn from messing up in games right? I think practice performance is a great indicator of game performance. no wone will suck in practice and then all of a sudden be lights out in the game. So to answer your question, T-Will must earn his playing time through great performance in practice and garbage time. If he is TRULY a potential superstar, this shouldn't be a problem right?

@your not so cleverly disguised play T-Will thread (332nd variation)

Agreed. I love JVG and would love to see him coach this team to give us that grit and identity back. but it is very easy to be a great defensive coach when you have a healthy Yao in the paint and a healthy Deke backing him up.

@ ShiniKashi, I apologize for calling your thread a not so cleverly disguised play T-Will thread. I just noticed that you started this thread in early January. Sorry. But my response still stands. if a potential superstar is truly that, it will be evident in practice and in garbage time.

If a guy can't even impress people in practice, I don't think we're overlooking any superstar.

This is the politically correct view...

But players' mindsets change when they're in an NBA game - some for the better, many for the worse. Some guys up their composure when the pressure is up, which is what Lin has showed.

In practices, I don't doubt he played hard and impressed coaches with his effort, but his "big-game mindset" (which makes him what he is was) was never seen.

This is especially the case with players who handle the ball. You just don't know what a guy is really made of until you put the ball in his hands. It's understandable why some guys don't get this opportunity, but others may have the ability/mental makeup but never got the chance Lin got.
