How do you find superstars if you don't play them?

Hill and PP won't be superstars in the NBA.

Wasn't Twill drafted right before Henderson? I agree with the OP though. I think the only guy on our bench though with even close to superstar potential is Terrence Williams. He could be a Iguodala/Dwade lite type player. Patterson is would be next. For Pat, maybe not superstar potential for but all-star potential definitely. He's a little more already than Twill right now but those are the two I would look at. I also think Ish Smith could have high potential too even though he went undrafted. He's shown excellent court vision and great passing skills to go along with his elite speed and good defense when he's played. He just knows how to play.

1 game does not make Gerald Henderson a star. In Henderson's 3 previous starts, he had 7 pts, 6, pts, and 3 pts on 3-7, 3-9 and 1-6 shooting.

Heenderson has started only 4 games, how could he go 4-2?

Well first, McGrady doesn't count. He came straight out of high school. Lots of players who came straight out of high school took a season or two to get it. Hell, Jermaine O'Neil ended up taking like four or five. But they aren't letting them come straight out of high school anymore though so that's irrelevant. Arenas is a better example. But even in his case he started 30 games his rookie season and averaged about 11 points per game despite not getting heavy minutes until at least half way through the season. By his second season he averaged about 19 points per game.

Honestly the only superstar I can think of who went to college and took time to develop is Steve Nash who didn't really break out until his 5th year in the league. And it wasn't until his 9th season that he was playing at an MVP level.

So yes, it has happened, but that is literally the only example I can think of. And while it's somewhat more common for a player to develop to borderline all-star level or all-star level, that isn't going to save us anyway. We need a superstar. Until we acquire one, mediocrity is the best we can hope for.

And really, does anyone expect any of our young guys to even develop to become better than Scola or Martin? Neither of whom are All-Stars? Because I doubt it. I think Patterson, Williams and Hill may all have bright futures in the league, but I can't imagine any of them becoming better than those guys.

I can think of other players that became all-stars(a step below superstar) or borderline all-star that took a while to develop.

    Here are some others.

Chauncey Billups (7th)-was always sitting below the star level, until he got to Detroit.
    Ben Wallace (5th)
    Gerald Wallace (5th)
    Danny Granger (4th)
    Joe Johnson (4th)
    Stephen Jackson (4th)
    Mehmet Okur (4th)
    Corey Maggette (4th)
    David West (3rd)
    Chris Bosh (3rd)
    Zach Randolph (3rd)
    Manu Ginobili (3rd)
    Andre Iguodala (3rd)
    Monta Ellis (3rd)
    Dirk Nowitzki (Breakout 2nd, All-star level 4th)
    Josh Smith (3rd)
    Luol Deng (3rd)
    Ron Artest (3rd)
    Deron Williams(Break out 2nd, All-star level 3rd)

I haven't listed many guys that broke out in the 2nd year, but played on all-star level in their 3rd/4th season. I was getting lazy. :p

    P.S.
Gerald Wallace is the best example of a player riding pine under Coach Adelman. He averaged 2 pts on 36% FG, 2 rbs 0.5 ast 0.4 stl 0.4 blk in his 3rd season under Adelman.

After he got traded to the Bobcats, he got more play time. He broke out in his 5th season, which was his 2nd season with the Bobcats.

He averaged 15 pts on 53.8% FG, 7.5 rbs 1.7 ast 2.5 stls 2 blks.

Last year, he averaged a double double, 18 pts and 10 rebs, and was selected to the 2010 All-Star game and 2010 All-Defensive First Team. It's not bad for former college player that was riding pine for 3 years, then switched teams and broke out.

It would be awful, if Adelman treats Patrick Patterson like Gerald Wallace.
If Patterson gets traded and breaks out into a star for another team, it would have been another missed opportunity.

Young player time should be coming soon, surely. By February at least.

Adelman is far too conservative for his own good, and it will likely cost him his job in the near future.

Wallace has admitted to being a slacker while in Sacramento. It's hard to blame Adelman when a guy's best effort that people remember is the pimp costume he wore to the arena.

Look at Henderson now... over the last 3 games (when he's been given minutes, ie: over 30) he's gone and averaged 19+ pts, 4 rebounds and 2 asts. On over 50% shooting. What happened to him being a "sure-fire" bust...?

Look at Jermaine Taylor now... He just scored 21 on the magic. Looking at his stats given minutes, he produces. He had a game with 4 steals...

Hell, you HAVE to play your talent to get it developed!

There needs to be a balance sure, but...YOU DONT BALANCE ANYTHING BY DOING NOTHING.

    /end rant.
