I asked whether you were one of the people who have dissed Yao for being too humble. When did I put words in your mouth? Stop the false accusations, tinman.

A player who is disgruntled is not worth the investment! The Bucks made a big error, especially when they knew before drafting him, that he would not be happy, because being in Milwaukee would cause him, his management and possibly his government to be unhappy.
Simply put the Bucks have gone ahead with this like a dog with its head in the sand and now they will either trade him or will have him play as an unhappy player. :D

Some of you guys are really rushing into this whole issue without the proper knowledge of alot of things. Namely: Yi, China, CBA, THE FREAKING U.S ECONOMY, and most important of all, the NBA.

    :(

The only thing came out of Yi's mouth was "I'll play for Bucks."
and at this stage, Yi probably doesnt know what he shud be thinking, hes just a poor dummy controlled by those bigger gangsters :p
its got nothing to do with nobody's arrogancy, not at all.

I think the G.S. Warriors are in a position now to trade the rights to the #8 pick (Brandon Wright, I think?) and whatever else for Yi the Chinese Cash Cow.

So, if Yi wants out, there are teams that would make a good deal to get him. If the Chinese government wants to play hardball, fine. Everyone will win in the end.

P.S. I wouldn't want to live in Milwaukee and I'M from this country.

the Bucks hold his rights, so if they don't get a decent offer, you'll just see the pryuen report about how Yi hooped up some short cambodians.

i dont understand why he can't just play and when he's eligible for free agency, leave? at least if he plays people can see if he turns out good or if he stinks.

if he stinks, then i'm sure the Bucks would trade him to Taiwan.

    my feelings about Yi fiasco:

Nike: they want Yi in a big market. they want business. they have spent a lot money on Yi and they have every right to control Yi (they think so, Yi thinks so, I think so too).

Fegan: representitive of Nike, actually the least powerful one in the whole thing, his tricks are hurting Yi, Nike, China, NBA draft, and Bucks. He might be fired by Yi, then Nike, if he is playing hard with those big shots.

Yi: wants to play in NBA for 1) money instead of playing in China for just $10k/year; 2) to pay off the Nike debt and then has a say to Nike and his agent by signing with any NBA team. Yi deliberately mentioned "would play for any NBA team" twice. There was something in it. Yi needs someone to stand up for him, someone includes: NBA, CBA.

China or CBA: they just want Yi to improve his basketball skills to prepare for the 2008. They might hope Yi can be selected by a better team, but any NBA team can give Yi enough tutoring. They will NEVER accept Yi's staying in China for one more year or never playing basletball any more. The business with Nike is too small for China to get in the way of bigger picture.

Guangdong Tigers: Yi is their son. Their bottom line is to let Yi play in NBA (to please China, they have to). Also they needed the business with Nike. They have to follow Nike and Fegan unless Fegan is killing their son's career. They are the biggest "loser" so far. in the end, they will lose Yi, Nike, and money....

Bucks: they are the winner. They did everything right. They need to seek support from NBA and CBA by promising good stuff for Yi. I think they did.

NBA: most powerful one; the connection between each part; the final judge, bribed by Nike so far.

It's not Yi's thinking he's too good for any NBA team. See you dont understant it.
There are a lot of stakes and parties invovled here. Dan Fegan for one is involved and his Chinese client's future in NBA affects him greatly. Yi's old CBA club is involved too because they have Yi's represtation in China. The Chinese government and CBA is probably involved too. Also various sports companies that have vested interest in Yi would want him to be in a bigger market than Milwakee. Had Yi been just himself, he probably wouldnt mind going to any NBA team becasue he's happy to play in NBA.

    classy.

I'm just curious, but was Kobe different when he was an unproven highschool kid taken seven spots after Yi Jianlian was picked? Because you apparently don't recall he refused to play in Charlotte and they were forced to trade him to the Lakers for Vlade Divac. Nobody even cared either. I've never really understood why nobody cared about that but Steve Francis was always a villain for pulling the same stunt though he was drafted MUCH higher and was much more proven. I'm baffled by this scenario too. The Bucks organization was fully aware that Yi had no interest in playing there. They didn't care. They picked him anyway. Now, there was a time I'd have understood that move. But after Fran Vasquez decided he'd rather stay in Spain than go to Orlando, you'd think a responsible franchise owes it to their fans to consider that. I suppose they knew that in the worst case scenario, a team like the Warriors would trade the farm to pry him away from them, but man, if I'm a Bucks fan I'm sweating hard right now. What if the kid just stays in China? I'd be so pissed.

Also, whoever listed the Tony Parker example - that was quite possibly the worst example you could have picked. Tony Parker is French, but his father is an American so he could speak English and he came from a Western country. The adjustment isn't nearly so drastic. I don't fault Yi or his team at all for wanting him to go some place where there is a large Chinese populace. And that's without even getting into all the business considerations.

Hell, I have trouble living anywhere there isn't a large Hispanic population and I'm not even Hispanic. I'm just used to a large Hispanic population and good authentic Mexican food! :D

I dont know what the problem is. Franchise forced a trade to us and we were Ecstatic we got him for a couple of paper clips and a free t-shirt. Let's not be hypocrites here.

If we allow players to dictate where they want to play, what is the purpose of the NBA draft? This is absurd. Yi Jianlian will play for the Bucks and if his people try to force a trade the NBA needs to step in and shut them down. If every player pulls **** like this the NBA would become another MLB.
