Name one sport other than basketball or football that is more entertaining than Soccer.

I understand why you would think it is boring though. That's what a lot of ppl outside the US think about baseball.

Come on, man. Do we need to talk about what people do at Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles games? What about riots in Los Angeles, Detroit, etc. after victories?

Hooliganism is an unfortunate aspect of many sports. But to point the finger at soccer is unfair.

I can tell you've never watched soccer in your life and your just throwing out crazy assumptions. This cannot be farther from the truth.

    So your basing it's r****ded..ness on it's fighting when it's a non-fighting sport? Lol.

I voted yes, I have been a casual soccer fan since the 1994 World Cup. I saw my first soccer game in person in 2007. (Not exactly true..I have vague memories of seeing a "Houston Hurricane" game as a kid...Played at the Dome, doubtless sacrilege to most soccer fans.

The Dynamo put on a first class game day atmosphere, second only to the Texans and beating Dallas in a huge comeback in 2007 sealed the deal.

That said as a former (American) Football, Baseball, Basketball only guy, I am amused by the dueling inferiority complexes soccer fans, and American fans of other sport have.

Check the comments on any thread about Soccer on ESPN or Yahoo.

Union Jack- The reason Americans don't care about Soccer is because they are too stupid to understand it. Their culture is morally bankrupt and inferior.

Joe Sixpack- Soccer is boring, the reason all the World loves it is because it is lame enough that even foreigners can excel at it. Americans have real entertainment options and our culture is in all ways superior.

on and on, back and forth...ad nauseum

Having "explosive athleticism" is pretty valuable in soccer, and a lot of players have this in spades. I don't know how someone can actually watch these games with the super slow-motion and not be marveled by what incredible athletes these guys are.

About the only thing they don't have over NBA players and other American sports is size. Personally I'm more wowed by what soccer players can do in regards to agility, coordination, endurance, speed, creativity than 7 foot stiffs in the NBA whose only real gift is that their bones happened to grow longer than other people's.

i was a football (what we call here in the uk) fan before i became a basketball fan. i was attracted to basketball cuz its fast paced and theres more scoring, and football is the opposite. i will only watch it during the world cup and sometimes the cup finals.

I started playing soccer this year in adult leagues around Houston. I grew up playing tons of baseball, football and basketball. When I play striker I kind of feel like I'm pllaying shooting guard/running back. When I play midfield I feel like a point guard/free safety. It is much more physical than I ever thought and I'm in the best shape of my life (or since averaging 25 carries a game in high school.) I take my kids to the Dynamo games and we follow them now instead of the Astros (although baseball will always be my first love.) LOVE the 90 minute games with no commercials. I even find it incredibly invigorating to run the treadmill at the gym while watching a soccer match.

Please. You don't walk by an NFL linebacker and wonder if the guy is a great athlete. You don't walk by an NBA two guard and wonder if he is a great athlete. You can walk by a professional soccer player and have no clue whether or not the guy is a pro athlete or a stay at home dad who jogs twice a week. Endurance isn't really athleticism. Coordination is to some extent but we don't consider ping pong players athletes. Maybe you do.

Not actually. I made a joke about soccer fans to which I received a reply insinuating that soccer players are good fighters. I disagreed based on what I've seen from soccer players who get in fights during games. The original comment was in jest although I will say soccer fights are pretty pathetic. Who the **** headbutts a guy in the chest or tries to dropkick him in the back? LOL

Having said all this, I tried to like soccer during the '06 World Cup but it just isn't for me. I don't see any of the raw/explosive athleticism I like seeing in an athlete. If it makes all you soccer fans feel better I don't like cycling or NASCAR either.

Your "explosive athleticism" and my "explosive athleticism" are two different things. I would love to see a soccer player with a 40 inch vertical leap or a 400lb+ bench press. It isn't there and that's fine but that's what I like to see from athletes. Freakish, raw athleticism with less focus on foot-eye coordination or the ability to run around for hours on end.

I'm sure soccer players have a type of athleticism that is difficult to quantify or explain. It's just not my cup of tea for many reasons.

Dude, I've played TONS of football, basketball and baseball as a pure bred American male and as someone relatively new to the sport of soccer, I have to STRONGLY disagree with you. You're letting your disdain get the best of you it seems, because this is just silly.

I started following soccer earlier this year and the world cup has only made me more interested in following the sport.

The insinuation, which was in jest, was that if you were going to pick a fight with the fans of a particular sport, soccer fans might not be your top choice.

Though you probably aren't sharing a coffee with soccer hooligans necessarily, your insinuation that soccer fans were wimps was a little off. Stupid, maybe. Criminal, sometimes. And obsessed -- pretty much always. But not wimps.

Understand that Dave78 is suffering from an obvious case of confirmation bias. Best to let it go.

Soccer is the most played youth sport in America so your point is totally off.

eh i cant believe so many people think football is way more exciting than soccer. at least there is constant action in soccer... i cant stand a commercial break after every freaking play that only lasts 5 seconds.

as for Dave78 saying these guys look like normal dudes and not athletes. their core and lower bodies are right there with just about any football or basketball player. and frankly you are an idiot. half the offensive linesmen in the NFL are just big fatasses.
