Anyone have any insight into what we're doing wrong exactly, and how it can be fixed?

What're we doing that's causing opponent guards to just be able to drive down the lane? Is it just effort, or is there something in the scheme that's affecting how we play D?

We get guards who don't run into every screen.

    We don't fight through picks.

There is several different ways to play pick and roll defense.

No matter what you do to stop the pick and roll, it's difficult to stop.

Did you guy see the pressure they got on Harden? They doubled him high and forced him to pick up the dribble. That is an example of how you disrupt an offense.

Not by swiping at the ball hoping to get a TO.

Effort would be a good starting point

Do you have any idea how teams like the Spurs or Pacers execute it?

It's the double screen that we have difficulty with. Causes way too many mismatches.

Ugh, that's the worst. So many times when our guys just let the guard drive by and try to reach from behind to poke it out. This results in one of three things: a foul, a steal, an open player with a free shot. Most of the time it's the first or third option that occurs.

Effort. when a guard gets screened they need to hustle back and recover as quickly as possible. not just lazily jogging back to the player they're defendin or giving up on the play just because you got screened.

You need the big to trap and stop the ball handler. Then recover or rotate. We don't do that. It requires discipline and trust. Our bigs are always caught back peddling which is probably the worst thing to do.

Communication is the key to guarding a pick and roll. Big man needs to warn the perimeter defender that a pick is coming, perimeter defender needs to let the rest of the team know if he's going over, under, or switching on D. They need to know when to rotate, for how long, until the guy who got screened recovers.

They have been switching the last 2 games. But still a work in progress.

good point. when it comes to defense, rockets have none of it. first step is to get defense in the gameplan.

They started switching after Bargnani hit some open Js as the screener and Dwight did not come out of the paint. The switching worked vs the Knicks. Tonight, not so much.
