Maybe...why not just go big up front with...

    C-Yao
    PF - Mutombo or

    C-Mutombo
    PF - Yao

    C - Yao
    PF - J-Tsak

HARD FOULS...make him work on Defensive end...body up on him when he doesn't have the ball...HARD FOULS. Make him fear going into the paint. Best way to neutralize any quick PG

Do the Bruce Bowen, give him enough space to shoot a jumper and "inadvertently" slide your foot under his.

Nah, not serious about it. Just give him some solid bumps and good clean hard fouls. We see Tony Parker back down from that all the time.

Look -I really like Spanoulis- I think he can help this team at some point in the future-I just do not think so for last nite

I don't know - what the hell -should a played him - nothing was working. I'm sick of losing to the Hornets

Actually this is the best, but depending on how the referees are calling it......

You can rattle those guys-Paul included, but the problem last nite - he was shooting very well and his passing was crisp

There really was no fear on their team-I hate playing them

This is pretty much true. Watch the Bad Boys Pistons. Watch any game involving Ron Harper in the playoffs during the 90's. That kind of defense breaks the spirit of point gaurds. I'm an advocate of putting someone mean on them and making them work. Fight them wherever they go on the court, be physical. He will get by you eventually, there's no way to stop someone like paul from blowing by you eventually, but when he does come into the lane, KNOCK HIM ON HIS ASS. Concede nothing, whether or not he has the ball. make him run all the way back to halfcourt to even get the ball.

    Other tactics:
The Box and 1--a decent idea when one player is the main penetrator / initiator in the offense. However, like any zone, you'll leave some 3's open, and if they have 2 quick penetrating gaurds like a lot of western teams (Pargo and Paul, Barbosa and Nash, Parker and Ginobili) you'll get torched.

Jump the pick and roll--have your big man flash way over the top of the pick to stifle the balhandler long enough to recover. Smart point gaurds (nash) will quickly pull back when they see this and switch the defense to isolate the big man (that's why you always see nash 1 on 1 against dampier or novitzki, etc). Yao also isn't quick enough to do this and would collect fouls, which is why JVG has him lurk below the screener as a second line of defense

Let Luther Head defend him --Ahahahaha just kidding. Pargo abused luther. it was hard to watch. It looked like pargo was an NBA player and luther was just some scared kid who had showed up at gym. seriously painful It's also a problem because he's the only other point gaurd in the rotation. JLIII may help a little bit, but he's probably not strong enough, vspan is a liability in other ways and is probably not quick enough.

So what do we do? there's a reason smart dribble penetrating gaurds who are true threats from anywhere from 3 to midrange to the basket to shoot, drive, or pass are at such a premium. There's a reason Nash is a 2 time MVP and Paul will be a perenial all star. The reason is that its damn hard to stop a player like that particularly when he's incinerating like CP3 was last night. Best we can do is make him work EVERY SECOND OF THE GAME. If we had a guard who could do it ( i kinda miss mobley...) i'd say we should post him up when he's on defense. Make him run into chuck hayes screens. Take charges. Every time he crosses through the lane without the ball, our bigs should step out and bump him, a solidhip check a la yao on rip hamilton the other night. Don't let him just catch the ball in open space, because he will use whatever space you give him to burn you. Stopping (or slowing, rather) a player like that recquires mean, physical, playoff intensity defense. No other way to do it.

I can almost guarantee you that JVG has already tried telling Spanoulis "not to make stupid passes."

VMac would probably counter by saying that the coach will not let him "play his game." Silly JVG always trying to force players to adapt to his rigid system by cutting down on turnovers. ;)

Trap them and get the ball out of their hands at midcourt. Obviously this wouldnt work on every play, but it seemed effective when JVG used it yesterday to take some ticks off the shot clock and slow down the Hornets' offense.

If this was the case he would be in the rotation instead of passing out Gatoraide during timeouts...

Hate to dissappoint you and your ilk but JVG will be back next year and get his extension. Way to root for the home team...

Just wait until the Hornets move back to New Orleans, then they will suck again because their home fans our worse then ours here in Houston...

Slack off and let them have long jumpers. If they go in like last night, you live with the result, but you do not let a point guard of that caliber get his teammates involved and have his buddies camping out at the three point line waiting for the kick-out. Nash, Paul, Parker, Deron Williams are not going to score 40+ on only jumpers. If they do, they won't do it 4-games out of 7.
