you jst need the right software, i used DVDFab and it worked great, the process is a bit lengthy depending on the quality you convert to.. also, did you know that wal-mart charges $2 per disc to convert to any format you want. if you dont want to got through the hassle of converting these and configuring all the settings you want.. what i learned is that if youre going to convert to all digital media, just visit our swedish friends over at the bay and just find HD versions of all the movies you want and be done with it.. they offer mostly HD MP4 and MKV..
heres what the process looks like.. there are temmplates you can use but its fully customizable.. you can select the res, bitrate, frame-rate, filetype, the device type (xbox/ipod/ipad/etc)
MP4 is probably only used for high-definition video like Blu-ray. Again, an ISO is an entire file of a DVD, whether it contains a video DVD (consumer type), or a data DVD. You can't just straight up convert ISO to MP4 or even MPG. If you want the video only, first you must rip out the VOB files within the ISO or rip the video out with one of these programs like DVDFab or Xvid. I don't want to over complicate things for you, but what josephnicks posted before me is probably what you're looking for. What's the purpose of having an MPG or an MP4 only anyway? You can't play an MP4 on a DVD player, only on your PC.
Super-duper, guys! I just started doing the ISO downloads and will start with DVDfab to obtain MPEG or whatever files. Good thing I got a 2 TB network hard-drive - the family I have yet to have will someday appreciate the easily accessible content.
So I've got everything saved as an ISO format but which format should I chose when I rip the DVD? There are dozens of them out there. Would avi.xvid.mp3 be good for a computer or a tv hooked to a network hard-drive?
