I don't know if that was directed at me, but if Clutch has some record of who was lurking from the CC.com days, I'd welcome looking me up. I was there. In a lot of ways, it was a hell of a lot more interesting than it is today. A much smaller community, to use a vast understatement, where getting to "know" the regular posters was much, much easier, whether you posted, or not. Clutch used to post a lot more, there were often "columns" by members, which were fun, and the knowledge and "fighting" amongst the members was more rougher, in some ways, than it is now. Certainly more entertaining, because the numbers were small enough to not have good stuff overwhelmed with the sheer volume we see today. I miss it. No, I wasn't registered and posting, but it became the first exposure I had to a functioning BBS, and remains the only one I have a real interest in. It might not mean much, coming from me, but those who've never discovered this site Clutch cultivated over the years have no idea how much higher the quality is at ClutchFans than 98% of what's out there. Not just the great job of the layout of the site, but most importantly, the community. It really is unique. Clutch deserves all the kudos we can give him.
I found this site when i was looking for information on steve francis never registered for the board because i didn't come to this site everyday like i do now but when i did register i started coming everyday
For a long long time you could lurk without having to post. I lurked for years in the GARM (when it actually was a good place to go) but I never posted. It wasn't until I found the Hangout that I started posting. I also never registered until it was mandatory so that you could lurk. I've been on Clutch for almost ten years and I absolutely remember the Clutchcity.com days. I found Clutch when I was living up north and was wanting to get good Rockets info.
I stumbled across Clutchfans while looking for a good tranny site. Been here ever since. Thanks, Clutch!
It was so long ago it has gotten sketchy. I remember Clutch posting on another BBS, non-Rocket, all NBA site. Then I remember seeing someone mention on another Rocket site about a new rocket site. When I investigated I recognized Clutch from the other site. Clutch would really go after those unbelievers during the Rockets glory days.
Used to post on the Chronicle Rockets forum back in '99, and someone pointed me over here. Those were good times: - Trashing Scottie Pippen "Now 100% Quitten Free" - Ridiculous trade scenarios involving "KT, 'Los (Carlos Rogers), and Walt Williams" - Outrage at Cato's 6 year, $42 million contract - Francis/Mobley is the backcourt of the future
Exactly. I love the people who say, "yeah, I was on here back in the mid 90s, but I didn't register until 2002." Umm, ok, coolguy
I'm on my second account because my original, St. Louis, I forgot the password and then moved and changed email providers. That was back when I never posted, thus starving the world of my superior intellect.
i found clutchcity when looking for wallpaper too. that was like years ago, like 2000 or something, but didn't join til a few weeks ago. us rockets fans gotta represent when we live in hostile places like utah with all these r****ded jazz fans. i've used the wallpaper for my computer at work ever since. jazz fans are jealous of us... that's all i can tell you.
First discovered the site back in 98 when Michael Dickerson was all the rage, but I didn't register on the board for a while. I was only 14 back then so it was probably for the best. Actually I don't think I made a post worth half a **** until I was in the 3000 range. Probably still haven't. This board has been a huge part of my life as pathetic as that sounds. I learned how to be the cynical, sarcastic ******* I am today and through this board I met my girlfriend. thats my testimonial.
My post wasn't directed at any poster, but a general comment. Read this thread again. Seems like everyone was around since the beginning yet they didn't register until say Yao Ming was drafted. It's hard to believe everyone is telling the truth. Sorry it's hard to believe someone lurks for years then overnight becomes an active poster. No big deal. I'm waiting for a poster to say he was here before Clutch started this website. Here is an obscure question. What/who was major's original user name? That will date you back to '99.
Dang it Max that question wasn't for you Yeah I have read the board was reset in Feb. 1999, that's why it appears history begins then, but the site has been around longer.
