The place where I used to play as a kid used to have trees around the perimeter; that's where I always hung out. I couldn't hit a layup to save my life, but I could shoot 3s pretty well. I was always a "pass 1st, shoot 2nd" type of player, and when I shot it was usually from around the treeline...

Stupid, I know. I have wanted to change it since the day I registered, but what the hell...

This has been done a few times (this is not a jab, just a statement). Do a search to see how many...I started one in 2000, I think.

I decided that I didn't want some dated handle to come back and bite me in the ass. Nothing cooler than your own damn name.

Unless your name is Fennis Dembo.

Which, actually, is a pretty cool name.

    Nevermind...

The connection is obvious, at least for this place, but it actually came from my favorite weapon in the old Quake games.

It just had an extra meaning on a Rockets site, so I used it.

My last name is Snipe...and since Sniper is cooler than any stupid snipe hunt jokes, I went with that for my first year and 30 posts.

Then I lost a bet...I kind of like Gutter Snipe better anyway - suits my twisted personality a little bit, plus I like cheering for the underdog.

    Be = B = first initial
Had = first three letters of last name

Put them all together and you get....Behad. I've been using it on the internet for years and years. Icq is Behad, Yahoo is Behad, Games.com is Behad, Aol IM is Behad3...try getting a simple name like that on yahoo now...hah! Maybe Behad1723543 or something like that!

Dean is my first name, B is my initial, and Curtis is my last name. I use this for most of my internet handles and even string it together for signatures. Although the capitilization has since crossed me, and I would love for a change to lower case.

Similarly, Swopa has been my nom de Internet ever since I got online. Actually, it goes back a few years before that, when I was recording some music with friends who insisted that we all use pseudonyms. (I have no idea why.) Mine wound up being Swopa, and when I got a Mac soon after and had to name the hard drive, I labeled it "Swopa" ... hence, my permanent computer pseudonym.

So what does it mean? Not a damn thing. In the group brainstorming for my pseudonym, one well-read friend started tossing out the names of overseas rebel/guerrilla organizations, one of which was SWAPO (South-West African People's Organization, in the country now known as Namibia). I thought that was close and said, "How about Swopa?"

I know, I know, who cares. But I didn't ask the damn question. :)

Mine comes from ex-Rocket superstar and ex-Grizzlie 3-point gunner, Pete Chilcutt.

Used to be RocketMan West because I found this site in 1997 (or was it 1996...help me Clutch) when I was living in Los Angeles. Changed it to RocketMan Tex when I moved back to Houston in 1998.

I used to flame lonely geeks in the first HTML virtual love/sex/lies chat boards, using a bilingual patois of sorts... I guess payaso (Spanish for 'clown') just kind of stuck.

I pose a new question- what causes people to change their handles, eh popeye, errrr oeilpere?:D
