Incidentally, that was the year Moses Malone 31 ppg 14.7 rpg and Elvin Hayes 16 and 9 dominated for the Rockets. The next year Malone left. I was only 7. To this day, not sure why he left? Free agent, trade? But, soon came Sampson, then Hakeem and from '84-'99, the Rockets didn't have a losing season. For me, that was ages 9 thru 24. Lots of memories.
I jumped on the Rockets bandwagon after they won their 2nd title. They have not even sniffed the Finals since I became a fan. Turrible.
I started following basketball in the mid-eighties and the Rockets were the best team in Texas at the time. Been a huge fan ever since...
I started to like and play basketball, and I started to watch the Rockets play, because I have family there, then in 93 they played a preseason game here in Mexico, and I went, and I like a lot that team. So I started to follow the team.
Born in Houston, loved to play basketball, and started watching around the time when we made it to the playoffs against LA, and won 1 - I think our roster consisted of Francis, Yao, Mobley - of course - Jim Jackson, Cato, Moochie, Weatherspoon, I could be wrong
I remember being young my Dad always said... 'You gotta watch an NBA game with Michael Jordan or you'll miss out watching the greatest player in history.' Sure enough I did and I didn't see what all the hype was about (2001 so he was probably way way way past his prime lol) Then game the hype of the 2002 Draft and Yao Ming. I started gaining interest in the NBA as soon as he arrived but soon lost interest as the team wasn't really enjoyable to watch. Fast forward a few years to 2007 and I started to watch the games again.. I don't know why but I gained so much interest and now I can't seem to not be informed about each Houston game.
I grew up in VA and was in a rival HS to Ralph Sampson's. I enjoyed following his career at UVA, while I was at A&M. He and I both moved to Houston following college, so it was easy and natural to start rooting for the Rockets. I have been a fan ever since.
Oh, yeah...I spent many hours at EZ-7. I basically lived at the Skate Park of Houston, though. The 80s were a great time to be in Houston, actually. Well, except for the fu*#ing Celtics (and NC fu#@ing State) . . .
From Houston, always liked the Rockets but then I fell in love with a man named Akeem. He sported a small tight curl and when he played, I felt safe.
