In only 25 years obesity in the US skyrocketed. How did this happen? Eating out more? The advent of computers? When you go to many other countries you see what I consider an extinct dinosaur in the US: the thin, but not muscular 40+ year old man. They don't exist in the US. Either you're obese or you work out all the time and are muscular. Well, actually gay men tend to fit the "thin but not muscular look", but that's really about it. ---------------------- Look How Quickly the U.S. Got Fat (1985-2010 Animated Map) This shows the percentages of the U.S. population medically defined as obese, which means a body mass index of 30 or greater. BMI isn't an ideal metric to evaluate obesity, but it's still what the U.S. standardly uses. By now everyone knows obesity is a serious issue, but it always helps me to see things moving and in color, and makes the "epidemic" terminology make sense. Meanwhile, through 2012, no state has met the CDC's nationwide goal to reduce obesity to 15 percent. The "melting pot" of the best food in the world. starting with Texas. The German immigrants invented Texas BBQ, btw. We aren't snobs, when it comes to food.
but that might mean we are just ahead of the "curve" lols. How's that for a simile! Fast Food is growing everywhere.
I really think food being available 24/7 did the trick. Once we got to that, and with fast food being so cheap, we get to eat all the time at any time we want. Remember when grocery stores actually closed, and you just had to sit at home if you were hungry and scrounged around.
truth is we have NO IDEA what they put in most of our food. i bet if we knew - people would be rioting in the streets. i bet that map visualization correlates with the distribution of a product or family of products. maybe it's a government conspiracy to curb overpopulation?
the whole damn map is fat, though like what ingredients are you talking about? My guess is that these are also available in other countries...
for one - all the pesticides and steroids n **** they put in our produce and meat. that's just groceries. what about fast food and junk food? lots of that food is designed to have along shelf life so preservatives and who knows what kinds of chemicals are put in it? fact is: healthy food is sooooo much more expensive than fast food and junk food. most of america can't afford to eat healthy. whole foods is great and all, but you pay for it.
can you be more specific? Pesticides, steroids, preservatives? Which specific ones make you fat, and do other countries not have those in their food? I'm not convinced it's not just overeating.
carbs and low fat diets pushed by USDA and American Heart Association rise in obesity conveniently coincides with the onset of this advice
Blame Monsanto and Archer Daniels Midland, evil corporations who care more about profit than they do about people's health. They have way too much money to throw at lobbyists too.
