maybe they would get the point if they handed out watermelons (bigger like yao said), the marketing industry idiocy never fails to surprise me, thank god it wasing in san fran or new york.
you know... that a'int a bad idea. i really like watermelons. they taste so refreshing. wish i had one right now. my mouth is so dry.
Are egg rolls really that offensive? What if they had 25% off of fried rice at the concession stands? What about green beer at the Stadium for St. Patrick' day? What about 25% off Pizza if there was a new 7'6" superstar from Italy? I don't know. I guess ifthe group involved feel strongly it should be stopped. I would like some feedback. Are the Asians on this BBS really that mad about the egg roll thing?
Riiiigggghhhhtttt...I have no idea where you went in China but pork, poultry, seafood, vegetables are all very prominent there. Maybe you meant if you were stuck in a pig farm in China...then you'd be screwed big time
first off, since i wasn't at the game, i wasn't offended and i also really don't know what occurred there. but that promotion was stupid and politically incorrect. if you're going to do a promotion based on somebody's ethnicity, you should at least do some research on what their culture is really like. The difference between what you said up there about chinese food and pizza is that, for the most part almost all chinese food you find in a chinese takeout place is not real chinese food. in other words, when those people who work in those takeout places go home, they make something completely different to eat. Italians do eat pizza. and pizza is pretty much an american thing. but you don't know how many times i dealt with idiots when i was a kid, who would walk up to me, laugh and say what are you going to eat, pork fried rice or something. people tend to make stupid remarks and assume what chinese people eat based on the stuff that's sold in chinese takeout restaurants. even in college, when i say i just ate lunch, a russian kid said to me what did you eat chinese food or something? this was also the same guy that a few minutes ago was making fun of how a chinese person in a takeout place doesn't know how to speak english properly (telling the joke to his fellow russian friends, whispering as if i couldn't hear him). it's like they treat you as if you're different from them and can only eat chinese food. to show you how stupid this is: the fact of the matter is if i were to eat chinese food cooked by my mom, it would NOT be any of those things sold in takeout. even the rice is cooked different. it's called congee and its very soft, and when people eat that, they usually have an assortment of dishes to choose from and eat with their congee. maybe one day i'll have tofu with the congee or shrimp or maybe duck or chicken or vegetables of some kind ,whatever i feel I like eating with it. and sometimes i'll have a soybean drink with that. and when i'm tired of that, i'll have whatever , salad, pizza, etc. on a separate occasion, i was sitting with a few chinese classmates, and the russians who were all sitting in a group walked to the back of the class where we were sitting and made a remark about how we looked like some kind of gang sitting together. as for comparing chinese to irish and italians, that's really stupid. first of all, irish and italians aren't treated as foreigners constantly. america celebrates st. patricks day and columbus day(an italian). they don't celebrate chinese new year or any other chinese holidays. chinese are considered foreigners. irish and italians for the most part look like any other caucasian person and nobody will treat them as if they're different. but when the US has some kind of conflict with china like the spy plane incident. some american people who are prejudiced against chinese will automatically get paranoid and look at all chinese as if they're communists or spies or sneaky or suspicious, etc. and the small eyes that chinese have doesn't help the perception since small eyes are pretty much associated with sneakiness and evil. i once heard someone say, you squint your eyes and look deceitful, that's why god hates chinese people. i read an article where they said a radio station, said boycott all chinese businesses when the spy plane incident happened. people in america definitely have an anti-chinese feeling whether they realize it or not. now i hope that satisfies your curiosity and i hope i don't have to go into another complicated explanation cause these things are really difficult to explain to people. and i personally don't like talking about these subjects.
