I disagree with the notion that Yao doesn't respond well with with negativity. In the past when when Van Gundy has called Yao out, Yao has played very well soon afterwards. It's just after a couple of good games, Yao will act like "well, I've had a couple of good games in a row, I guess I can take the next game off". Sometimes I kind of wish more people made fun of him and called him another Shawn Bradley like in his rookie season. Or more players would give him facials. It seems like only when Yao is humiliated, is when he'll unleash his anger on the opponents.
This is something that has been ticking me off about Yao also. Everytime he misses a shot, has a turnover, or gets a foul, he hangs his head in shame as he runs back in transition. Pick your head up Yao and get mad!
I agree. Yao needs to not only quit being a cry baby, but he needs to try to follow up his shots instead of just watching them clang off the rim. It's like, after he shoots he doesn't want to put in the effort to try and make a play off a potential miss...maybe it's another stamina issue.
I guess nobody realizes how much running has to do. In the offensive side, JVG has him running from side to side fighting for position. I remember in Haken days, he would go to one side and stay there. On the defensive side similar observations. In Hakeen days he will just wait in the middle, and never ventured outside to cover point guards. In JVG he has to cover whoever comes out of screens. For his physiche that is too much running. JVG has to change how to use Yao in order to get better results out of him. A 7.6 guy can not do the same kind of running smaller guys can do. Just imagine all the weight he has to carry.
BINGO!! That goes for t mac as well. Notice when they shoot the ball they run away before the shoot even goes in .
yes... compared to Lue he is an upgrade. compared to Barrett, he is much more polished and experienced and compared to Ward he is a candidate for MVP
Well i hope Sura can give us what we are lacking at PG. I just hope he can get into shape quickly before we get to far under .500.
LMAO! Ward has played poorly in recent games, but at least he shot 2 consecutvie threes for us in the first game against the Kings. Otherwise we may be down 5-10, which is even more terrible.
it would be wonderful if sura can get back at his 8 rebound per game he averaged last year... He can create his own shot, he has natural energy and intensity, he gets everyone involved, he forces the defense to pay attention to him (he's always looking for a opening to the lane, if the defense ignores him he's going to the hoop), he's tall and quick, he is our X-Factor. barrett can be our y-factor.
Sura looked good. But he also looked like he always wanted to force the pass. Don't get me wrong, I like how he was playing...but I hope it was just rust and wanting to be involved and all. If he's gonna force like that all the time, he'll be averaging 4 TO's per game and won't be helping us as much. Sometimes your passing lanes are cut off...and you hafta realize that. But aside from something small like that, he's looking good. Gotta love that he and Barrett push it..maybe they watched the whole season and realized what guys couldn't see while on the court somehow
Sura offensively had a good game making decisions. He seemed to make some stupid fouls in the 4th quarter when the Rockets couldn't afford to get in the penalty early.
He sure did, but they were hustle/fatigue fouls and at least he was playing with passion. If the rest of the team played with the same competitiveness, we would be a much better team. DD
Exactly, Sura may have gotten a few bad fouls in the 4th, he was at least hustling and looked like he cared. when he gets back 100%, I am hoping for some good things. We need some intensity badly.
Saturday's game changed dramatically when Sura came in. He was penetratring the defense, making smart decisions with the ball and creating open shots for teammates (many of which were missed). Sura was the only thing that kept me from getting depressed over the loss to the Nuggets and the 6-9 record. He gives the team a highly skilled distributor to mix with Yao and T-Mac and should make them both better players. It was astonishing to see an actual Rockets guard driving to the basket and getting the ball to an open teammate, rather than turning it over or just passing it around the three-point line. Who was the last Rockets' guard with "court vision"? I can't think of one and I've been watching this team for 30 years.
Sura = Savior He picked up the energy level dramatically. He's got to be on the floor shot or no shot.
