Kenyon Martin signed the big contract July 15, 2004. Martin played 70 games during the 2004-05 season but underwent microfracture surgery in May, 2005 on his left knee and on his right knee in Nov, 2006. Kenyon Martin was a breast before the knee injuries, he was worth that kind of money when he signed the contract.

No he definitely was NOT a beast before signing the contract. Certainly the injury made him into a lesser player, but "beast" is a huge exaggeration. He got the money because playing with Jason Kidd inflated his value and the Nuggets were desperate to make sure the Nets didn't match the contract. Nobody else in the NBA even considered giving him that kind of crazy money.

He was 15.5/7.3 in 2004-05. What is your definition of a "beast"?

Yeah, you right. 15.5/7.3 in 2004-05, the season where he had knee problem and in fact had microfracture surgery during May of that season is a good example. And the NJN ran a lot of plays for him unlike players like Rodman.

    I love stats!!!

He started at PF for the back-to-back Eastern Conference champions, and his rebounding and scoring #s steadily increased in each of his first 4 seasons in NJ. Beast may be an exaggeration, but he was an emerging force, and there's no denying that. He dropped 16.7 and 9.5 the year before signing the lucrative contract with Denver, and he hadn't suffered any major injuries up to that point in his professional career.

Kenyon Martin was a beast alongside with Kidd. He played good defence, he has range, he was extremely athletic and he was a very solid rebounder because of strength, leaping ability and "bouncing feeling" ( )

Remember, he had two microfracture surgeries (on both knees) in Denver and he is the only player in professional sports, who was able to make a comeback after it.

They certainly overspent, but they thought, that they could live with that because he was one of the most entertaining bigs in the league and he had fan support

I saw alley #3 online and I was shocked for a half of hour at least

OK, forget stats. When was he a beast in Den or NJ when healthy? I'll answer for you: Never. Did you seem him play? Calling Kenyon Martin a beast at ANY point in his NBA career is ludicrous.

In college, yes. In the NBA, forget it.

Duncan, Garnett, Malone(Karl and Moses), Barkley, Weber, Kemp, Gasol and Rodman are beasts. They are double double machines, with the exception of Rodman.

Mo Taylor numbers(15.5/7) are not worthy enough for a player to be called a beast. These numbers are before microfracture surgery.

I never understood the hype about him. He was an above average PF with average rebounding, but certainly no beast like other guys in the league.
