Thats what I thought, I think Stop 'N Go just bought out the 711's in Houston, like what Kroger last year to most of the Albertson locations. I knew 711 still exist cause they still have them up north in NYC and always see the commericals, even though there isnt one here in Houston at all. Speaking of Slurpees, have any of yall tried a Mountain Dew Code Red flavored Slurpee? BEST SLURPEE EVER!!! They have it at the Cheveron on Westhimer and Voss/Hilcroft.
I thought the deal was that Stop 'n Go is hq-ed in Texas and bought out 7-11s so they could dominate their home market.
I use to live two steps behind a 7-11 in Los Angeles.. I mean there Ac unit on top of the building use to wake me up at nights.. and it is just a swap meet for drug dealers and other crazy stuff. but it was a fun interesting place..
now you're talking!! Taco Bueno rocks the casbah. i freaking love that place...they had one in Waco that I frequented while at Baylor.
I think they still have some in Austin or was it SA? I saw one when we were in whichever town that was, and I told the wife that we were stopping to get some cause I missed it so much! I spent many happy hours as a youth eating at Taco Bueno.
I remember now, we were in Austin for an art awards ceremony at the capital... Stopped there on the way in to eat lunch, then stopped there again to take some back to Houston with us. If we werent tied to the petrochemical industry, I would move to Austin just so i could eat there everyday! their burritos indeed kicked major ass.... I was just looking on their corporate page, and didnt see another of my favorites listed...do they still have the item that was taco meat on a bun? ( dont remember what they were called) I loved those also..
Well, except that 7-11 is also based in Texas. If you limit that to Houston in terms of Stop N' Go, that's apparently what the case was (or, at least, 711 was scaling back due to their bankruptcy problems and Stop N' Go was a willing buyer of the Houston-area stores). http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/view/NN/dhn2.html
Ahh, memories. Slurpees, comic books, and arcade games. Never find classics like these in the cornerstores of today :
I wasted so many hours playing Street Fighter II at the Little Chief, it's not funny...I haven't seen a video game inside a convenience store in years. They've all been replaced with those dumbass video poker machines. I guess they didn't want kids loitering in the store, so they thought that middle aged chainsmoking women sitting on a stool would be better...
MUAHAHAHAHAAAA! I dunno bout yall, but here in Austin, there's 7-11's on almost every corner! But then again, in Austin, we also have Albertsons... hmmmm.
I was all about 10 Yard Fight at the Circle K on Louetta near Heatherwood. A five dollar bill equaled hours of entertainment and high scores galore.
I've come to the conclusion that unless you're just short on money or are constipated, any place with "Taco" in its name should be avoided. I've eaten at Taco Bueno, and it's a few notches above Taco Bell. But that's somewhat like saying you'd rather drink dirty bath water than water from a sewage ditch. Del Taco Taco Bell Taco Bueno etc. *shudder*
