Our starting center got injured again.

He was suppose to be the answer to Haddadi.

China's income tax % is comparable to that of US.

The answer is somewhere in your original post. I have dropped a subtle hint as to which statement exactly.

I think the taxes overseas are worse than they are here. Ours are relatively low compared to the rest of the world, but that's beside the point.

I don't think Iran has enough basketball tradition to develop solid players yet. Perhaps in time, they will, but I don't think basketball's been there very long nor do I believe it's very popular. They might look a bit better than they actually are because most of the Asian teams are the same way (save maybe China, who's always been bball crazy).

i think yi was injured most of the tourney. also, other than china and iran, i can't think of another team not using an american player. that's bs to me. doesn't really represent their countries talent. i mean, some country got jarvis hayes. not a fair competition.

of course it doesn't help that china picked a bunch of young kids. they need to grow up fast cause yi can't carry a team like yao did.

FIBA rules allow one naturalized player per team. Since most Asian teams are short, they opt for centers. Of course, we can only get older players who have never made it in the NBA.

Haddadi dominated the FIBA Asia games. He won MVP of the tourney also. Reports said there were NBA scouts trying to see if he could still play in the NBA.

Iran developed a style of play that utilized Haddadi's size and heft. They're not a good 3pt shooting team. Only Bahrani (PF) and Kamry (PG) could create their own shots. What they did was defend the middle and keep driving and look for their bigs to lay the ball into the basket. Ugly but effective.

The China team doesn't like its Greek coach. They also seemed to lack enthusiasm at all to play. No teamwork too.

China-Taipei and South Korea showed excellent 3pt shooting. The Philippines was only able to win vs. South Korea because the Korean bigs couldn't defend the inside. When our American center got injured, we switched to dribble-drive (I kept remembering Harden) and they couldn't stop our PGs at the rim or our interior passing. We got hot on the perimeter at the right time also.

Filipino fans are ecstatic because after 30 or so years, we have qualified for the World Championships again. Despite our height limitations, basketball is our #1 sport. As a Filipino saying goes, libre mangarap ("dreaming is free") so we continue to dream.

RoxBeliever- Id rep if Id could, but Im on my phone. Nice insight, its rare I hear about asian national teams, especially during non olympic years. Didnt realize the game was so popular in the Philippines nor that Asian countries try to naturalize centers.

The higher tech comment is pretty stupid. I love Malaysia and Singapore. Singapore has about as high of a standard of living as you can have but its no silicone valley (software not the chip making like the origin of the name). People from all over still flock to silicone valley when they want to make it rich in software. I'm not American but I am a software developer.

"Sorry, Merica"....as if some redneck that loves dove hunting more than anything cares if the average Singaporean has a faster a internet connection (has more to do with pop density then advancement in software engineering).

So what is the point of this thread. Are you trying to feel out if more people think its a conspiracy? Probably not. If an owner can make more money with you here, they will get you here. If there were a Major League Weightlifting league or Wrestling league, there would be plenty of Iranians in those leagues. Check back in and 20 years and that might change.

That's cause Taiwan found themselves a ringer in Quincy Davis III

He had to renounce his US Citizenzhip to become naturalized in Taiwan.

China's income tax rate is almost 50% higher than the US. They give big tax breaks, and sometimes free land in order to lure foreign companies. That's why US and European companies outsource to there.
