yeah you are just being overly sensitive about this pruyen.. I think he put 'even' in there because really, would you expect a super tall centre to shoot so well from the FT line? Put in ten 7'6" footers in the league and probably Yao would be the best from the FT line. Don't be overzealous with your YOFism, it'll just make YOF look bad
this thread should be locked, cause it's stupid and there is no warrant for his claim, and it is getting WAY to dirty (get your mind out of the gutter.... not that dirty... )
Actually, it's the funny way that some American writers give theirpraise to Yao Ming By their past experience the super tall players have not even approached the sort of percentage that Yao Ming shoots, so the writer is pointing out even someone who should be unexpected to shoot at a high percentage [Yao Ming] is able to do it, so should Lebron as he is more the size of an expected great % shooter. Hope that paints the picture!
Have you guys watched that Geiko commercial which say something like ..."Geico on-line is so simple, that 'even' a caveman can do it"? Does that suppose to imply that cavemen are the most sophisticated online users?
In related news, Yao only fans got upset when Yao failed to get 3% of the presidential vote. "Even George Bush got 3% of the vote."
In other not so related news, a dedicated fan who contributed a lot to the community, misinterpreted an article and started a maybe ill-advised thread. Then, bunch of self-claimed "real" Rockets fans jumped on him, repeated the same message over and over again, attacked him personally with so much fun, tried so hard with the same "authentic" righteousness against bunch of so-called YOFs. Such effort EVEN extends this one-star thread to five pages. Just great.
actually yao is shooting free throw better than kobe gilbert and dwade... and remember he is the only center to shoot technical FT for a team
That was my initial reaction as well. But if you re-read a couple of more times the last paragraph that contains the "even" statement, you would conclude that the context in which Yao was mentioned may not be ignored: By logical extension within the context, the writer clearly implied that Yao was also one of the league's superstars and MVP candidates. However, Yao's height/size is presumably a disadvantage to him when it comes to free throw shooting.
I never understood the supposed 'correlation' between size and FT shooting...you are either a good shooter or you ain't, size has nothing to do with it. Big men have traditionally not done well from the FT line because most of them were used to playing within 10ft of the basket...they simply lacked precision from 15ft out, or were average shooters from that distance. Some things are just inexplicable, like why Rafer Alston has an easier time making 3-pters yet struggles making layups...or why T-Mac seems to stroke it better the farther he is beyond the arc. Most players have favorite 'spots' where they like to shoot the ball. Some prefer taking jumpers and aren't comfortable taking 'set' shots like FTs. There is a lot that goes into it, size not being one of them, IMO...
Are you sure about that? Frankly, the dude is beginning to creep me out, appreciate the translations and all but common man, there is a whole world out there other than just Yao...... Forget what I just said, Yao is the only reason Pryuen gets up in the morning!
WOW !!! So many responses in half a day !! Well, English is not my first language. Well I might be too sensitive and over-react as some of you said. But I still think the way the sentence is structured, that last sentence is a d@ss instead of a compliment. It is Yao Ming's 5th NBA season. Everyone knew he is a great free throw shooter. It is a FACT. So why say, even Yao Ming shoots his free throws better than James ? And if the writer considers Yao Ming amongst the leagues' superstar and MVP candidates (even though he is currently injured and out of contention for MVP), why his name is not included into that list ? After all, FT% wise, Yao Ming's 87% is only below Dirk Nowitzki (91%) and Steve Nash (88%), and higher than all the rest of the players he mentioned there as Leagues' Superstars !!
well my solution for you is to just email the writer of the story. ask him what his intended meaning was and then we can stop debating this.
Hey, ignore the fools who are overdoing it with their criticism of you. You're one of the top 10 most valuable posters on here, so don't let this stop you from posting all the great material. It is MUCH appreciated!!
