Man, now I wonder who is more lost in translation... you or Pryuen ? Pryuen my man, I still appreciates all you've done with your contribution with rareYao info. For what's it's worth, you still rock in translating chinese articles to english so... You're still ok with me bro .
I agree the hype was partially to blame and some of the mocking could entriely stem from that. But common, you dont think there is a bias towards communist China in the Media and the US vs China mentality is not part of it? Cold war had last been too long, I think the prejudice are instilled in lot of people here, not even realizing it.
are u kidding me? now this is one of the worst threads I've seen in a while. why in the hell would u care about what they say? and it's not that he cussed Yao Ming or something, but Yao is freakin 7'6, he is a center, Shaq shoots 40% from the line, Yao shoots over 80%. LBJ is supposedly "the best player in the league" and a "great shooter", and yet the 7'6 Yao Ming (who is supposed to be a post-up player and not a good shooter) shoots better than him. if u noticed, all the names he mentioned in the "MVP candidates" thing are sharp shooters. please now, stop all the YOF threads and dont post "me no likes America because is no good talk Yao Ming" after a random article in which Yao is barely mentioned.. why didn't u ask "why is the media so mean to Tmac"? they didn't mention him as an MVP candidate. why didn't u go crazy when Mehmet Okur won POW last week when Tmac actually deserved it? we had 3 threads in the beginning of the season whining about Boozer getting POW instead of Yao in a week that we went 1-3 on.
pryuen, I understand your feelings about #11. I was ticked when they compared Maxwell with John Starks.
Yeah it's no big deal. It's just pointing out how special yao is cause most big men shouldn't be shooting fts as well as him. It's no different than saying something like shaq shoots floaters better than rafer...something like that shouldn't happen.
I experienced this first hand in the early Mid 1970's as a first generation imigrant in America, so I know how you feel. In regards to the prejudism , it still exists , but not as bad as you think it is. Based from my personal experience today, people will see you for who you are as person first. It's only when you pull out the race card to make excuses for why you are being picked on or why you can't be successful and such .... that is when people will show the racial prejudice toward you. We can't stop but we can at least minimize the racial prejudice. How ? ... well I would think stop being sensitive about it the first place would be good and do away with the paranoia that everyone is picking on you because of your race. Another word, people will either hate or like you are regardless of your race , but they will hate you more if you start being sensitive and turn into an angry Asian man, angry black man, angry white man ...or whatever. Don't turn everything into a race issue, it does only inflames it more. My 2 cents.
pryuen, the US media is also mean to its own people like R Kelly. People care too much about stuff he (or someone that looks like him) supposedly did in their private life. But if you pick up that R Kelly Greatest hits album, you'll know that ' I believe I can fly ', 'Step in the Name of Love', 'Remix to Ignition' shows a person who enjoys life through the highs and lows. I understand you pryuen, I understand!
I agree with Pryuen, too. It's clearly obvious the author is snubbing Yao. Even Oriental Yao Ming (87 percent) shoots free throws much much better than LBJ. The writer is clearly putting down Yao Ming because he thinks all orientals are bad free throw shooters. If an oriental can do it, LBJ should be able to do it too. Why is the US Media so mean to Yao Ming? They are cruel! Only foreign media is good to Yao.
Next time, just say "chin-chong-chin-wah-Yao-Ming-chan-chun-wah". That way the Chinese fans will be able to understand you better.
everything is about nations, races, communists, cold war, discrimination and blah, blah,blah.... take easy, man .
I think that contest was rigged so an Asian man would win, therefore selling more hotdogs to Asian people
In the past,I have been critical of the western media and their treatment toward our foreigners, but there is no capitalist propaganda anywhere in this article.Comrade pryuen, there is nothing to fear.
Well, here is my 2 cents. The racial thing more sensitive in this coutry than most parts of the World. Melting pot isnt really melting if you look at the history of this country, what minority had to do for their rights. But this country does have open door policy to attract highly qualified immgrants around the World, which is really smart. And that policy created racial tentions for survival IMO. There are a lot of people in this country are educated enough to know how to cope with people with different skin colors or from different culture, but you cant deny there are also alot of people had prejudice instilled in them. Avoiding it or showing I am insensitive is a passive move when the agreesor(deliberately or ignorantly) take it upon to you. Well, I digressed agian. Just a dose of reality IMO.
pryuen, the clause/statement introduced by "even" doesn't necessarily suggest a negative connotation -- it's merely used to stress an extreme or highly unlikely instance. Also, I don't see the author intended to leave Yao out as one of league's superstars and possible MVP candidates. Grow up, kid. Shouldn't this be the job of a MacOF?
