Lots of guys are compared to great players. And lots of guys don't live up to the hype. Let me know when making the "right" move like drafting Oden starts helping coaches and gm's keep their jobs, and teams win games.
You're like the guy on the losing team who played a decent game and always says, "it's not my fault. The other team just got hot from 3." You're no fun to play hoops with.
Oden did not live up to the hype because he was injured, so he's not a bust just a unfortunate pick. At least I'm not the guy that pounds his own chest though...not saying...just saying.
Just give up. Yes, we all as fans make tons of mistakes and I'm sure everyone who called you out probably wrote something that looks equally idiotic in hindsight. But in this case your post is hilariously funny and happened to be bumped up. Just eat your crow and move on. You're in good company anyway. The Warriors wouldn't give up Thompson, Bobcats wouldn't give up MKG, and Wizards won't give up Beal for this guy THREE years into his career. Nobody thinks of you any less that you couldn't predict his career path 2 years as a backup.
Yes, y'all both can be annoying. If you can't laugh at yourself then you're taking this board too seriously. And Gred Oden wasn't a lock to be great even before the injuries. Durant was a 25ppg scorer in year 2.
You are right, I give up. Still though, Martin was pretty good that year. Not sure what happened to him the next year though, guess he started to whine about this and that. I have a thing about being laughed at The thing with Oden is the guy never had a chance. I want to say "Oden could ball! I saw him..." but I've barely seen him play. I saw him play some really good playoff defense in the post season against the Rockets...that is literally the only time I've seen him really play. But he was considered a once in a decade type of prospect...ala Lebron. I remember when I used to get Slam magazine that this guy was on the cover talking about how he wasn't going to come out of high-school and blah blah. He was what Wiggins is supposed to be...but he never played. So I just don't consider him a bust. From what I saw, he played some good defense (for a rookie) and had touch around the rim. There really is no telling what he'd become if it were not for the injuries. Maybe it's just my sympathy for the guy because he seems like a really good guy and I feel for him because he's never really had a chance to show what he can do. I know Durant was a high prospect too but Oden was the center...and really we get one really good center prospect every 3-4 years so teams gotta take them.
Here's my dumbass moment. We went to one of those pre-season Rockets parties in the 90s, the year we got Michael Dickerson and Cuttino Mobley, who were both signing autographs. Dickerson was cool, but Cuttino was very friendly and funny. So, we're walking away, and my wife says, "I like that Curtino guy. I bet he is going to be a good player." My retort: "Honey, it's Cuttino, and he's a 2nd round pick. The other guy was a top 20 pick. Michael Dickerson will probably be in the NBA for the next decade, and Cuttino probably won't last the year." My wife doesn't know the first thing about basketball, and she completely smoked me on that one. She predicted 2 guys would be good players in the NBA- Cuttino Mobley and some guy named Hilton Armstrong (who I also said wouldn't amount to anything). If that guy is still in the NBA, friggin shoot me now. OK, so Armstrong played 7 years in the NBA and he's in the D-League- I called a complete bust, one-year-and-out on him, too. Damn that woman!
Wiggins will be better than Jabari Parker, Embid, and those other high-ranked prospects this year. Regardless of his stock falling below those or whatever, it's Andrew Wiggins. He'll be the next superstar in the league on the level of a Durant- or a Harden or Blake Griffin. There's my prediction.
Thank you. I just try to evaluate talent as I see it. I played a little ball at Alief Elsik so that's pretty much my resume. Other than that, I sit behind a desk like most people.
people are way too hard on Jaygoogle The Oden pick wasn't a bad pick in a basketball sense. It made perfect sense to draft a 7 foot defensive center when they already have a superstar to be wing in Brandon Roy who dominates the ball. On paper LMA, Roy and Oden all healthy was a formidable team. But things don't always work out. If anything, they should've blamed the portland medical staff when scouting these players.
so does this qualify as you admitting you were wrong? because you were. and the whole bbs sees it. It's okay to be wrong though. I am sure you are a nice guy despite being totally wrong.
