Gater, Great post. I am in the same post as you. I just don't believe much in blaming the officials. Furthermore, calls even out in the long run, even though people just refuse to see it. Yes, there are bad/questionable calls, but its hardly like we never are the beneficiaries. This applies to Yao. Yes he gets some ticky tack fouls, but he also has a problem with staying in the lane too long, going over the back, and using his off arm, that don't get called as often as they CAN be.
The yelling, the WTF happened look, the slapping one's own arm signal can't possibly help pursuade the refs to side with the home team. And when Francis whips the ball at the padded basket support, I pretty sure he loses points for that.
Obvious answers. Blow out your opponent. Get Home Court. Dominate. The Refs are screwing us. It's obvious. But who cares. They screw everyone right down to the NCAA.
yea . .so what if it is 5 on 8 I love how . . Yao's fouls are a crime against humanity but the mugging of the guards is their own fault Rocket River
Exactly what I was thinking. Yao has a bad game - blame it on the guards. Yao gets called for fouls - blame it on the refs Guards have a bad game - they suck Guards get fouls called - they suck
Yes, and so should we. There is NOT a 'conspiracy' against the Rockets. Yao has actually been getting more calls as of late (besides last night). Save the crying about the refs for the idiot fans like the jazz, mavs, and kings fans. We've actually won championships, we should be above this nonsense.
I use to think Yao gets the shaft on calls, but lately I've noticed that Yao gets a lot of non-calls to his benefit. He is an extremely ackward and sloppy player on defense and on loose balls. He's practically over the back or swiping at a player's arm on every loose ball, and he's moving into the offensive player's body on defense whenever he protects the basket. These could be called fouls everytime and be legit calls. Last night, after having 3 fouls, the refs let Yao get away with an arm grab on Divac (the one Divac got a T on) and several body blows under the basket. I'm thankful for it, but I think it's clear that the refs aren't trying to "screw" Yao. He needs to learn to play smarter. Emphasize fouls against him like Divac does, and cover up fouls he commits against the opposing players.
im just saying that we are getting on the bad side of these refs and this will start hurting us long term.. we get some bad calls but it goes both ways but we need to shut up and just play the game.. remember refs are human too.. and when you call them out or show them up they will get their revenge. Jordan was the master of building a good relationship with the refs chatting and talking to them. Not whining and complaining about every call he didnt get. I think there is a good way and bad way to deal with this and we doin a poor job right now. I hope this doesnt come to bite us in the butt. J
ONE way to stop the ref problem is for SF3 and Cat tp SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP... and if that doesn't work - they could try Shutting UP let JVG do the complaining - that is his job !!! if they would keep their mouths shut and stay focused - maybe they would beat teams like the Suns and the Warriors (negating the need for a big win in Sac)
no one is denying yao should shoulder some of the responsibilities for these losses. but the fact is the officiating is definitely an issue. not a non-issue as some people suggest. don't you think the fact that steve and cat argue with the refs after every shot is annoying as hell?
Actually no. Yao was (somewhat) getting the calls in the 2nd quarter. He picked up 2 quick fouls (the second one looked like he didn't land a slap on Webber) then didn't get called for about 2 slightly less questionable fouls. I thought that was alright because Divac was getting away with everything so at least it was even. But in the 2nd half he just completely got no calls. Divac pushes and slaps him like crazy and doesn't get called while he as much as breath on Kings player and will get a foul. To tell you the truth, that and1 play he had, I was REALLY REALLY suprised they actually called a foul on Divac, considering how he was getting pushed on his other shots. So there was a huge ref swing in the 2nd half. I wonder why...
There is obviously a problem. The NBA wouldn't have suspended that ref if there was not a problem going on in the league. Simply the worst refs have to be put out the league and hope the NBDL can give them new, good ones. I am not sure how many of you watch other NBA games, but officiating has been a series issue this season all over the league, not only Rox games.
uhhh steve has a problem, a quote from the sacbee "Just before the third period, he went back on the air with Gray to apologize. Moments later, veteran official Dick Bavetta told Francis that while he respects his craft and skills, it needs to go both ways - and that he'll continue to see him for several more years because he feels young at age 66 and "I'm taking vitamins." It appears Bavetta (and probably most of the other refs) dont think that Francis(and probably the rest of the rockets) respects them enough. Bavetta basically gave him a warning that hes not going anywhere and steve better start respecting him. And what does steve do, pop him in the mouth. http://www.sacbee.com/content/sports/story/8609470p-9537667c.html
Well said, the rockets must adjust becuase the refs sure as hell arn't ill tell u that. & STOP crying about every single freakin call (Steve), just play the game!
In soccer, both teams used to kill the referee's at the end of the game.... its not a suggestion or anything.... unless thats what you're into.
Everyone is complaining about the officiating.. fine we all need to blow off smoke but im more curious about how we rectify this problem if there is indeed anything we can do? People talk about respect alot.. and its true we dont get alot of calls but every team complains about the refs and they think they are getting the short end of the stick. I bet if you visit the Kings website they think we got all the calls in our favor or that the refs favored us.. being jump shooters will not get us the calls from the refs we need to attack the basket and be the aggresors. - in conclusion I think we should keep quiet about the officiating and let JVG do the talking.. if he doesnt say anything about it so be it. J
This is so old. We attacked the basket last night still go no calls. We were the more aggresive team last night, so what?
The refs do suck. They don't call a foul because a player violated the rules. They call a foul because Chris Webber missed a shot he ordinarily drains. They call a foul because Kobe Bryant hit the deck hard. They watch the shot and if it goes in, no foul is called, otherwise Tracy McGrady is at the line shooting 2. Sometimes they call an offensive foul because they missed a travelling call the last time down and feel the need to make it up. They'll call Shaq's 3rd foul because Yao already has 4 and Shaq's been grabbing and bumping just as much as Yao. I have NO IDEA why they call travelling that one time in the game, when every player in the league takes 3 steps to dunk the ball. What's NOT a carry anymore when the point guard's penetrating and setting up the offense? Lane violation? Try EVERY free throw attempt. Yeah, the refs REALLY have control of the game
