"How can anyone hate on [Kyle Lowry]?" Two reasons: 1: Because people apparently call him KL7. 2. To agitate overly-defensive forum members that call him KL7. In addition, after channeling my inner tinman, I hereby dub thee a "KOF."
Anyone who expected his poor play after coming back from the injury to continue don't know basketball very well. I think alot of his criticisms came unfairly because most players do well until they get the contract. Then they have a drop off. Couple this with the injury issues and his poor play to start the year and they were thinking Lowry was not worth it. The only valid criticism of Lowry is taking 3s when there is alot of time left on the shot clock. Which I think he has done 3 times. All season.(yes once tonight) Just like Rafer, you have to live with the poor 3 point shooting when the shot clock is running down. I wouldn't be mad at him unless he takes them without looking for a better shot within the offense(which he doesn't usually do). He seems to understand his limitations and plays within them. So get behind him and cheer him on. After all, he IS a Rocket!
I don't hate Lowry, but I still wouldn't call him a starter. Good enough of a passer and ball handler but, his defense is way overblown and he gets manhandled by good PGs (which the West is full of these days). Offensively, he can pass the ball pretty well but that is about it. I am not one of those that find getting to the line a great offensive weapon since if the refs aren't calling it, it leaves everything up to Lowry's sole consistent move layup. His range shot is more random then our backup center. I like the guy and think he plays, but I'd still take Brooks or another proven PG over Lowry any day for our starter.
We are frustrated because Kyle is an up and coming player who we just gave a FAT contract to, and in turn we expect him to not only continue at the level he was at, but improve. He has not improved thus far.
In my opinion I think it's good that somebody has started stepping up for the team. He shoots and misses, so what? He makes those plays maybe because RA drew the play or he makes those plays because he is confident. Either way confidence is something we are lacking as of late.
he has gotten better as his conditioning improved, but as far as his salary? he makes like 5-6 mil coming off the bench, that's a lot also, when yao comes back we need people who can shoot lowry can't hit the midrange (which is strange because he was very good at it last year) and he can't hit from behind the arc either, although he was making them last night he's great off the bench, but i don't know if he is right for our starting line up
How is that a lot? He's getting paid the MLE and amongst MLE players he would be amongst the top in terms of productivity.
As you see, there is still people saying that he's not starting material. He can't score! Well, in fact he's scoring with good %s, as you show. About his defense. Very good team defender, good 1on1 defender, elite rebounder. There are some all-star PGs who will score his 25 nevertheless. Despite a good defensive job, despite coaching strategy... That's why they are stars. Westbrook is averaging 24, he did a normal game yesterday, he's playing that good. The point with Lowry is that you won't see a normal PG killing him, like can happen with another scoring PG. About his shooting selection, when you're lacking all-star talent every player needs to play more aggressive, and it's why Battier, Martin, Scola, Kyle... will worsen their percentages in the long run. The problem is not Lowry, is Yao's absence, the player destinated to give you that role. Some of those avoidable shots won't happen once Yao's on the court, because at the most difficult moments you will go to Yao's low post game (and with Kyle you will go properly, not like with Aaron) and he'll give you quality shots. If you don't believe in Yao already, put there the name of your preferred all-star. But the lack of an all-star is not Kyle's fault, he does his job as PG of the team, and does it very well. This is an overrated statement, already explained.
lol @ this moron... 45% FG, 40% 3 point shooting. He can shoot... he's just not Steve Nash. It's hard to find a PG that can do everything.
you dont think that's a lot for a back up pg? when we haven't even given our starting pg a contract? unless they see him starting after this year he's not an all around player, he's a bruiser and a hustler. not worth 6 mil imo
what? are you kidding me? are those his stats from last night? cause that doesn't prove a damn thing. he is shooting like 24 % from behind the arc this season and just abt that for his career his fg % for the year 37% do you watch rockets games sir? anyone would know kyle lowry can not shoot the ball, despite his play last night clock winding down up by 1 you want kyle lowry taking a mid range jumpshot? CLANK OFF THE FRONT OF THE RIM.
I like Lowry's D and rebounding, because that's what wins championship. However, we will need him to hit some outside jumpers, because those floaters and bullying your way to the basket don't work against playoff teams. Plus he's overpaid, it is what it is.
Morey has turned this GARM into stat freak heaven. We are 5-11 with some of the best stat players money can buy. However, we won championships with 2 of the most important stats defensive stops and rebounding. This team has neither.
I just love the "when Yao gets back, we need shooters..." bit. Like we don't need shooters now!?!?! Look, YAO IS A SHOOTER. When he comes back, we'll have shooters. When Yao comes back, we need somebody to get him the dad gum ball, man! And play D!
