I guess you could drain your pipes and backfill with antifreeze, but yeah, there's really not much you can do.
I keep hoping "they" are wrong about how long this will last.

My own views completely aside... I don't want to be that guy... but it's kind of nice to have a weather thread without the politics stuff, if that's even possible. I know it's important to a degree, but that's why Clutch invented the D&D forum.

53 in my house atm. Everyone bundled up. Sort of like camping without any sort of windchill. I’m in my undies.

Cell Internet only works at night. No power so no land internet. I’m going to ask my neighbor if I can run an extension from his genny tomorrow for internet and charging wireless devices.

The stove is gas so we can cook.

Also found out that my fireplace is actually for wood. It has a gas pipe to help light the fire. My carpenter buddy came by and inspected it. He installed them for a living when he was right out of high school. So we had a fire today but as @Nook said, it’s pretty inefficient. Get more than 10 feet away and you can’t really feel it. But it was fun to have going.

After about 30 hours without power, we had 12 hours with power, and now power is out again

We're not in here talking about abortion, gun rights, or even climate change in this thread. We are talking about deregulation f*** ups that may have caused this situation. People need to know who they voted for and what they voted for. It's always the uninformed voting for Repubs

Hell I would take that right now.

Just give me a chance to regroup. Charge up my power banks and download some movies to my tablet.

Honestly the cold is manageable for me at this point.

Power went out about 15 minutes ago in long meadow farms subdivision. It's going to be a long night. I brought my mom and my in-laws over here because we had power and water lol... The irony.

I would love an hour or two. I just want to feel my feet again. I’m pretty sure it is sub forty degrees in my bedroom.

I'll spoiler this because it doesn't even relate to the thread

What a shitty thing to say. How does this relate to anything? Maybe we can blame Texans for the next hurricane that hits the coast too or when tornadoes wreck a city. We are getting walloped with a 100 year freeze. Did you really think we were just going to breeze thru this like no big deal? This is a very rare and major natural disaster for Texas. Sorry but we can't just snap our fingers and make ourselves prepared for a freeze like this within a few days.

Please keep your political bs in D&D. Thanks!

Hey, I agree with that, and that's why I post in D&D. (And FWIW, someone did mention climate change already in this thread, LOL.) Look, it's all good -- have at it. I just know if enough triggers are pulled, this thread won't be very interesting or very civil much longer. But that's fine.

Be safe everybody. Wear layers! I never in my crusty long life thought I would have this thought: I wish I had convinced my parents to always own a set of thermal underwear, (like I do for backpacking at elevation.)

Dan Crenshaw laying the smackdown! TLDR: Too much renewable energy, not enough fossil fuels.

If by smack down you mean he has been smacked too many times in the head I agree.
