I was just leaving Houston and heading back to Dallas when I got a text that we got hit in the Dallas area with 80 mph winds and torrential rains as well as possible tornadoes. This is a few days after 4 different tornadoes (2 EF-3's and 2 others that may have been EF-1's) missed me by about 15-20 miles. When I got the text saying that mess was heading to Houston, I decided to detour around my usual path up I45 back to DFW and took some roads I'd never been on. I pulled over in Roans Prairie, Tx (*shrug*) and pull up in a gas station and wait for the storm to pass over. Holy crap did that wind and rain pick up, but it wasn't anything as bad as what DFW experience. After it passed, and an hour later, I continued on. I stopped at a Buc-ee's I didn't even know existed to start my trip. After waiting the storm out, I decided to stop off at my usual stop in Madisonville's Buc-ee's, but the parking lot was empty and they weren't letting anybody in. The storm looked like they knocked that Buc-ee's out of service. So, of course, I had to stop off at the Ennis Buc-ee's next. Yes, that's 3 Buc-ee's if you're counting. I shall pray for the Madisonville location.
It'll be like the stock market, it'll trend a certain way, but we'll get lulls. This just isn't one of those years. The private equity dollars are full steam ahead into making money off climate change (home repair industry). Insurance dollars say the same (bailing). The money always knows! GOOD LUCK (I hate it here)
Lightning struck a tree in my backyard yesterday and it fell into my pool. A big mess to clean up but it could have been so much worse. Borrowed a chainsaw from a buddy and I'll be out there cleaning it up this afternoon. My in-laws lost power yesterday and spent the night with us. Still not back on yet. Gotta love Kingwood.
Had a pretty good hail storm up here in NRH these last storms. I've never been in one that lasted so long. It's been years since I've seen hail like that. Went on for like 20 to 30 minutes. At one point, some golf ball size ones were dropping but mostly dime to quarter size. Didn't see any damage on the neighbor's cars across the street out in the open...so it couldn't have been too bad. I'm sure all the roofing contractors will be out so I'll be the one not answering the door.
I hope they rescued him. This is one of my fears when at construction sites. We've got beautiful weather here in Minnesota. Hope everyone affected in Texas recovers.
I really wish they would stop using the terminology and instead call it out as the probability statistic it is. It is 1% storm. It has a 1% chance of happening each time it rains.
It is on the Northeast side of Fort Worth. North Richland Hills, commonly known as NRH, is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, located in Tarrant County. It is a mid-to-high end suburb of Fort Worth and forms part of the Mid-Cities region of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.Wikipedia
It's not suppose to be 1% chance every time it rains. The one percent signifies the probability that a storm of equal or worse has a one percent chance of occurring in any given year. That said, it's clear enough that the 100 year and 500 year probabilities need to be renamed to match current reality.
