C.J. Watson. Besides an explosion against the Nuggets when Rose was out, he isn't doing much. Definitely a weakness. 3rd string is none other than JL3, who blew that same game for them by choking on 2 FTs in the closing moments, right before Melo hit a game-winner as time expired.

IMO, very good chance the Bulls trade for a vet backup PG who's worth a dime.

I actually thought Watson was a great signing for them and would be a high quality backup PG. Hopefully (now that the Rockets don't play the Bulls anymore), he snaps out of his funk and starts producing more for them.

They can be even better if they can land a quality starter at the 2, like they are trying to do now. Scary thought.

I am beginning to wonder if the secret to the Rockets defense was ever JVG in the first place or has it always been Thibs? If we brought back JVG, would our defense be as good without Thibs as an assistant?

Very true. A legit starting SG is by far their primary need.

I don't think JVG got fired, at least not technically. Also, I think he recommended Thibodeau as an NBA head coach in general, not specifically to the Rockets. He just said that Thibodeau deserved a head coach gig.

It's both. Before the season started, many thought Rose would take it to another level. He has not disappointed. But it's also obvious the Bulls have a lot more fight in them and they are leaving it all on the floor more often than last season because they have confidence in what they are doing. Check out this comment from Rose earlier in the week. It wasn't meant as a slap to Vinny but it cuts him pretty hard:

Night and day: Whether he meant it as a knock on former coach Vinny Del Negro or not, Rose said this season features better in-game adjustments.
"We used to go into games where we were like, 'Man, how are you going to win this game?' " Rose said. "But now, we go into games, we know what to do. If we're messing up we can change it right when we're playing.
"We don't have to look at film tomorrow and figure out this is why we're losing. … That has been the difference between this year and last year."

I know there were at least a couple of guys here who believed Vinny was a good coach last year, but there isn't much left to say after these remarks.

Who do you think taught Thibs most of what he knows? JVG was his mentor.

He became JVG's assistant at the same time that JVG became head coach. Thibs started coaching long before he started working with JVG on the Knicks. He has been coaching since 1981.
