Honestly, if Redick is even average on defense, Maurice Evans and Bogans wouldn't be starting for Orlando. That, in itself, says something about Redick's all-around game.

i would trade mike james for reddick in a second, but he has no defense whatsoever, and there is no way in hell we would trade luther for him. that would be a stupid trade.

    My dear sir,
I have seen him live in the NBA. His defense is far worse than Luther Head despite whatever his coach may say. He is far slower than Head,is physically weak, can't get his shot off despite having good mechanics. My brother-in-law is a Dukie and a big fan off JJ from his college days. He is astonished at how poorly he has been doing in the Pros. I was afraid that CD would select him,I'm glad that he didn't do it.

We do need shooters but having multi-dimensional players is our need. He is not likely to do better even with open looks and will get destroyed by bigger and quicker players IMO. There is a reason why he can't get minutes on his own team.

We're not trading Novak for Redick. Redick won't be defending 6"10 PFs the way Novak has to either.

Hypothetically speaking, we're replacing Head with him. Head's defense is so bad you can't make any argument about Redick being bad at it, at BEST it's a wash, but don't forget Redick is bigger. Look, I've been through this many times before, you can look at any analyst when the question of Redick comes up and there isn't a single person who doesn't believe he could be an asset to any number of contending teams. The question is whether or not Orlando can get anything for him that's better than keeping him away from other teams' rosters. No one would trade for Mike James at this point, so I'm looking at Kirk Snyder.

Head is a better defender than he's given credit for.

Nah, I still think he can be a good complimentary player for a low post offensively oriented team.

    mike james is practically useless

and we can't have too many shooters around Yao.

IT would be nice to have redick "perhaps the best shooter in basketball history" on board.

Hmmmm. Redick is a head taller than Luther but a head shorter than Novak. Redick is a spot up shooter so he would be the spottedick of the Rockets system. Head would replace Redick so he would become a ickhead in Orlando. Of course, if we had both on the team, they could rotate in the lineup -- kind of a redickhead. :)

Why choose 1 over the other?

Why can't you have redick AND head.

Actually, if Novak and JJ weren't so slow and defensively challenged, it would be fun to consider a quick rotation of an SF3-type penetrator at PG, JJ and Novak at the wings as SG and SF, with Scola and Yao patrolling the paint. Balls would be a-flyin' -- that's for sure.

JJ Reddick follows in the great tradition of Steve Alford and Bryce Drew. NBA washouts cause they were too slow and couldn't get their shots off. No defense can't jump. Steve Novak isn't too far behind. His saving grace is that he's tall so that counts for something.

Novak Best Case - Kapono Worst Case - Steve Alford.
