Why would a playoff team (us) want the 4th best player from a lottery team??

The ease with which Portland is willing to dispose of a guy who averages a double double is concerning. He seems to have improved over the years and is posting good numbers on a decent team. Why did they decide so early on that he's not their man, given there is nothing impressive for them in the FA market?

The reason why they are letting him go is because they want to pair LMA with a defensive Center, not a power forward playing center.
He would be great on this team because he would fit well with Asik, he can hit the midrange J, and he can run the fast break.

Already suggested that in this thread: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=237807

If he want's 8M, no offers will be given lmao. And I think many players now wants to be in rockets since we are building a contender, so it's a chance for a ring and young player may take less $ for contract. Let's say 5M for JJ should be good enough, and it's max for me.

This. I am somewhat 'meh' about him. We need someone GREAT all around, not just pretty good and decent in most areas. Those well-rounded nothing-spectacular players are crucial to winning as well, to be sure, but we already have enough of those I feel.
