Many people here (and many NBA people) are intrigued by Shaun Livingston's comeback attempt from a bad knee surgery because he was a high school great and a big PG.

But there is another big PG with injury issues out there, who was universally recognized as a GREAT PG propsect even back in high school. Our man just averaged 16 points and 10 assists a game in the D League. He is 6'4'', 210 lbs, shot 44% from the field, 35% from the 3 pt arc, and 89% from the line and won a championship, too. When he decided to leave at the end fo the season, the fans were begging him to play one more year for them.

Should the Rockets give Livingston another chance?

Seriously... Randy retired as a player. Not much fanfare outside of Idaho. Many people probably don't even remember him as a Rocket. But it's good to know the guy had somewhat of a happy ending.

Just want to recognize a former Rocket who made something out of a bad situation. Best of luck to him in a coaching career.

(BTW, the Mike Taylor quoted below just got drafted by the Clippers in the 2nd round).

BOISE, ID (April 25) – Idaho Stampede head coach Bryan Gates tried to get the crowd to chant “One More Year,” but Randy Livingston wouldn’t let it happen.

Livingston didn’t need one more year. He already had the perfect ending, as his Stampede team won the 2008 D-League championship with a 108-101 triumph over the Austin Toros on Friday night.

“I don’t think God could have scripted this any better. This is the most amazing way to end it,” he said after the final game of his 12-year professional career.

“I remember watching Jerome Bettis walk off as a Super Bowl champion,” he continued. “It’s not the NFL or the NBA Finals, but any championship on any level is one you relish, one you savor.”

Livingston did not keep his decision to retire a secret from his teammates and they would not let him walk off the court without a championship.

“It was the only way to send him out,” said Brent Petway. “He’s been saying its going to be his last game for a while and we all played really hard for him.”

While his playing career has come to an end, do not expect Livingston to be away from the basketball court for long. As a veteran player, he always took younger players under his wing to tutor them on their game, so coaching is definitely in his blood.

“Randy has been instrumental to my development as a professional point guard my whole year,” said Mike Taylor. “I probably don't tell him as much as I should, but I appreciate him to the umpteenth degree. He took me through the game and told me that I don't always have to use my talent sometimes, but to think through the game and visualize things.”

Taylor was the star of the deciding Game Three of the Finals, as he put on a 3-point shooting show in the second half. He finished with 27 points and hit 7-of-10 from behind the arch, four of which came in about a five-minute span that put the game away.

“Coaching is definitely the next step for me,” Livingston said. “It’s probably been the next step for a while. I truly still have a passion to play, but I always said the year I didn’t get called up, was probably the time to call it quits.

“I have a passion for playing, but now the passion for coaching is going a little bit higher. So it was time to move on and transition out of the game, but still stay really close to it.”

Livingston has already begun preparing for the next chapter of his life. In association with the D-League and the University of Phoenix, he is working toward his bachelor’s degree that he began working on when he attended and played at LSU. He also has sent out about 30 resumes to NBA and college teams to get started with his coaching career.

I remember watching that kid in college and was really impressed. His knees just kept giving him trouble and robbed him of a bright future. like you said, he made the best of it though.

Why are people on this board so obsessed with D-League players? I'm not saying D-League players are no good, but usually most never break into the rotation.

If you want good quality get them from the draft or FA.

LOL. All he did was question why people are obsessed with d-league players. Please tell me where Yao or Dream ties into that.
