How about Chuck Hayes in the starting lineup?

Hayes would still have to make some layups in 1-on-1. I guess he would just miss, rebound, miss, rebound, etc... until he made it.

I kid. Yes, Hayes would probably beat 99% of this board 1-on-1 because of his size alone.

Agreed. But inside of 25 feet, I'm sure most of us would smoke him in a shooting contest. He'd only win at longer ranges because of strength and because we wouldn't have natural shooting form anymore.

Easy there, skippy. You don't need to worry. Adelman doesn't come to CFs for coaching advice.

So, you are saying that Chuck Hayes in your words, "Zero on offense, great defensive specialist" shouldn't start, but that Luis Scola who gives you nothing on defense and 12 ppg on offense, is should? The logic of your argument is flawed.

Also, the team took off last year not simply because Luis Scola was inserted into the starting lineup, but because Mutombo replaced Yao, which proves my theory that The Rockets are a better team with more defense in the starting lineup, and disproves everyone elses theory (including yours) that Chuck Hayes wouldn't be effective as a starter simply because he doesn't score a lot of points.

Mutombo and Hayes' stats from last season are very very close:

    Hayes:
    MPG: 19.8
    FG%: 51%,
    RPG: 5.4
    APG: 1.2
    SPG: 1.1
    BPG: 0.5
    TO: 0.78
    PPG: 3.0

    Mutombo:
    MPG: 15.9
    FG%: 0.53%
    RPG: 5.1
    APG: 0.1
    SPG: 0.3
    BPG: 1.2
    TO: 0.44
    PPG: 3.0

Scola gives you more on defense than Hayes gives you on offense. Scola is the better fit period.

Also I think that Chuck misses too many layups theory is a bit exaggerated.

So Rafer is a "legit scoring threat" and we're a better team without Yao?

    Uhhhhh.....

I don't have proof, I don't feel like looking for stats, but from watching the game that is how I feel.

Scola will give you some defense at times. It's not like Scola flat out doesn't play defense.

Hayes gives you little to no offense.

Actually, it IS like that. Scola does not, cannot, play defense, period. To say that he gives you "some" defense at "times" contradicts you saying "Hayes gives you little to no offense."

Taking Scola out of the starting 5 would be a mistake.

But I'll agree to disagree on this one.

    Oh yeah 1 last thing.

Scola is the least of our problems in the Starting 5.

They played a great Jazz team down to the last possession of a 7 game series and had Juwon Howard chased down that last rebound, we win. You compare that to last season with "Offensive Genius" Rick Adelman, you add Scola, Landry, Brooks and they not only give up the first 2 games AT HOME but they get "bounced" in 6 games.

Sure, you will say Yao Ming was out, but Boozer wasn't 100% and other than that, they didn't add any significant players.

    Say no more.

Please tell me you are not trying to compare Yao Ming being out for the whole series for us to Carlos Boozer not being 100%.

    This can't be life.

Hayes is better on defense, but is as good as he was last year? He has gotten bigger which has made things more difficult for him. If Scola is at the 5,Hayes should be at the 4. Luis does better on offense without Yao,perhaps the best thing to do is to increase Hayes' minutes while still giving Luis a significant role.

I will say this, that I would prefer to see Hayes getting more minutes in the 4th quarter along with Yao.
If Hayes and Luis aren't playing well together,Deke can come as the backup center while Luis or Landry are at the 4.
