Good post. I have always been interested in that aspect of management and scouting. I think Rashad might develop with a veteran coach, on a "real" team. Sac and Minny are like rec teams, with rec coaches, and rec management. In a defined, disciplined role, he might be worth a shot for cheap? It just amazes me to see such natural, young talent on the waiver wire.
There is a need for scoring and he provides scoring as a 6th man option. As a starter he would be a bust but as a 6th man he would be ideal like a JR Smith of Denver perhaps?
y'all do realize he's only about 6'3, maybe 6'4, with shoes, right? He's a good player, but i'm not sure i'd want him paired up with our small point guards, especially brooks...we need someone who shoots better
He's 6'4 in NBA height (ie - with shoes, which is how they measure EVERYONE) But the more significant factor is his 6'10 and 3/4 wingspan. The guy has a higher standing reach than Landry and has a 33' no step vertical (that's like 5 inches better than Budinger). He's also strong - so he's strong, quick, and can shoot. Oh - and he's already averaged 14.9PPG for an entire NBA season. If we can get someone like that for the minimum then its's CERTAINLY worth the effort - particularly since we don't seem to have anyone to start at the SG position for the first half of the season. Honsetly, there's not much to LOSE by bringing him in at the minimum. For me the question is: would it be better to have someone like McCants, or to roll with White/ Taylor/ Budinger? McCants is the most proven commodity amongst the 3 I guess?
Yes, but Mccants is a volume shooter, that's how he gets his points...i agree he's got talent and can be a solid player...but i think we need to start looking at efficiency now...with Yao our shooting % will take a hit...adding volume shooters isn't going to help any..budinger may be able to help in that area and score the same amount..
and i realize they measure everyone with shoes, but my point is he's about 6'2 barefoot, that's the only thing you can be sure of...then depending on what shoes he's wearing he may be 6'3 or 6'4, which is still short for a SG, and like i pointed out, that makes for a short guard combination
Wouldn't hurt to pick him up but in Minnesota the guy was a ballstopper and a terrible decision maker. If Adelman somehow screws his head on right, then we might have a steal.
Good points from everyone. I think he would be better than Wafer and Chase too, despite his short height and volume scoring. Aaron Brooks' role as a scoring PG would suffer as a result. My knowledge of J.Taylor is very limited, but after hearing from the summer league reports,he doesn't seem to be ready. I admit it's unfair after such a short sample,I guess DM and Adelman will have a good look at him during the pre-season. Wasn't there a knock against McCants being somewhat of a malcontent who didn't care about defense, and being a ballhog? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
If we don't sign Wafer he would be a good replacement, but Wafer is faster with the ball and is taller. DD
I love Rashad. He would be a great prospect IMO i've been wanting the rockets to take a look at him for 3 years now!
