Look, I know the difference between movie characters and the actors that play the characters, but you have to admit ... Glen Grunwald was damned funny in Dumb and Dumber.

Speaking as a Raptors fan, gamer4Life is talking out of his ass. There is no way in hell that Toronto would ever trade Davis for Cato, Rice, KT, etc. The fact that so many Rockets' fans have scoffed at your proposal as being too good to be true should clue you in on something. I wouldn't bank on Cato dominating the East ... they used to say Elton Brand would be exposed once he moved to the Western Conference, too.

I know that each player has his own idiosyncracies and faults that his fans and critics will notice. When you're an ardent fan of a team, you start to develop strong opinions about all the players, even scrubs who may never see the floor. It's difficult for fans of other teams to grasp how a player is regarded in his own city. There's never going to be a consensus on anything, but let me give you my take on some of the Raptors, as an alternate view.

Vince Carter - People forget how good he was before the injuries, but still considered soft, with a low pain threshold. Doesn't try hard enough on defense, the team defers to him too much on offense. Takes too many perimeter shots, but injuries may have something to do with that. Despite all that, he's still our best player and he singlehandedly put the Raptors on the map and possibly saved the franchise. The Raptors are NOT better without him. Maybe too nice of a guy ... he still has tons of unrealized potential.

Morris Peterson - a nice surprise considering he was picked late in the draft. biggest knock is inconsistency. really improved his D last year, but he's no stopper. probably will never be beter than a 14 ppg, 4-5 rpg player with an outside shot.

Jerome Williams - overpaid, but is a high-energy rebounder and versatile defender. Good athleticism. Limited offensive game. Uses too many 'dog' analogies in interviews.

McCoy, Foster, Huffman - scrubs. They may have hustle, but not a lick of demonstrated talent.

Bradley and Chris Jeffries - starting to develop, but far from stars and far from untradeable. some people think they should be getting more minutes, but, realistically, they're not saviours. Who knows how good/bad they'll end up being?

Davis, Alvin Williams - bring 100% to every single game. Davis is the leader of the Raptors, not Vince. Hardnosed defender, rebounder. He carried the Raptors to the playoffs last year, and he'll show up once there. Unimpressive post moves. Alvin Williams is a guy who turned it around solely due to hard work. Committed defender, and has made strides offensively, especially this year. Not a true point guard, more of a combo guard, his court vision and decision-making are suspect.

Lenard - pure offensive player, good shooter. He was an injury exception signing, he's done more than expected, one of the few sources of offense when Vince was gone.

The only positive thing about this unholy crappile of a thread is that Lionheart thought RIET was serious about the Shaq/Kobe trade - enough so that he had to make a strange french fry comment about it....and that made me laugh a little... amidst the pain in my brain brought about by reading the earlier posts...
I'm glad I wasn't in town this weekend so I didn't waste my entire day trying to come up with the proper words to make the thread starter go and rub sandpaper on his knees and then dip them in vinegar.

This is an odd trade threat to mock. I think it's far more realistic than most.

That said, I couldn't see it actually going down. That deal is lopsided towards Houston, as it gives Houston two serviceable players, and Toronto only one.

If someone else were requested, like Nachbar, then it's lopsided in toronto's favor. Nachbar, while perhaps not a future superstar, has all the tools to be Hornacek like. All 3 of those guys aren't worth a Jeff Hornacek.

The proposed deal is not about talent; it's about salary cap and luxury tax. Which is precisely why it won't happen.

    This is a good trade:

    Houston trades:

    Cato
    Rice
    Griffin

    Toronto trades:

    Antonio Davis
    Morris Peterson
    Hakeem Olajuwan

Why would Houston do this trade?

Because AD gives a solid veteran presence to the team. A playoff performer, good atitude, intangible qualities. Can help out in center if there is a need, in the meantime he plays PF. Morris Peterson solidifies the 3 spot, and Hakeem Olajuwan is free money....80% is covered by insurance, so that's approx. $9 million. That's alot of money that the Rockets organization would love to have. Griffin will take at least a few years to develop, Mo Pete and AD will help now.

Why would Toronto do this trade?

Griffin. 'nuff said. Raptors need talent. Cato also provides Toronto with the ability to dump most of their scrub centers. Trading Peterson isn't too bad, because we're stacked at the 3. Rice's contract expires.
