I remember reading somewhere that Sampson had a hand in recruiting Delfino to the Rockets because they were on the Bucks together where Sampson was a coach. Delfino could of made more money elsewhere but felt comfortable coming here because Sampson told him how important he would be to the team as a veteran presence and knowing that he will have the opportunity to play a good amount of minutes.
Tied with Lin for the third best player behind Harden and Asik. His defense is underrated by GARM and better than Parsons.
Disagree, although Delfino has been playing very well Parsons is arguably the third best player on this team (and arguably second best). He is the second leading scorer on this team, second leading rebounder, third in assists and third in steals. He is our best all-around player.
Every advanced statistics showed Parsons is overrated by GARM. The reason is simple: Parsons logged in the second highest minutes played on Rockets. Per 36: Player TRB AST STL PTS Parsons 5.8 3.6 1.2 14.1 Delfino 4.6 3.1 1.4 15.3 Morris 6.8 1.6 0.8 14.6 Patterson 6.5 1.6 0.5 15.5 Douglas 3.4 3.6 1.5 15.4 http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/HOU/2013.html Here's a true measurement to how a player impact the team when he is off/on the court: xRAPM/100 possessions listed by minutes played Name Offense Defense Net (per 200) Harden +5.16 -0.64 +4.52 Parsons -1.86 -0.41 -2.27 J Lin +1.33 +0.68 +2.01 O Asik -1.34 +4.87 +3.47 Morris -0.36 -1.53 -1.89 Patterson -1.93 -1.33 -3.26 Douglas +0.01 -2.26 -2.25 Delfino +2.04 +0.57 +2.61 http://stats-for-the-nba.appspot.com/teams/HOU.html Rockets actually do better when Parsons is off the court than on, both offesively and defensively. I am not trying to knock on Parsons abilities and what he means to the team or how he outperforms his contract. I am just going by statistical perspective that he is just an average player who logs in huge minutes.
This young Rockets team couldn't have asked for a better, more fitting veteran. Where would we be without you, Carlos GODfino? Have you guys noticed how nicely he sets up Asik? I think Carlos' passes are the only ones Omer doesn't fumble out of bounds lol
What do you guys think about picking up his team option for next year? Its a bargain for his production but at the same time it hurts our ability to sign a max free agent. Then again I guess dumping him if necessary wouldn't be hard right?
