I don't know if anyone has though of it yet, but payinh Lowry $6M per year as a starter is pretty cheap. Why not match the Cavs' offer and trade Brooks for a Backup C and PG?

Is this possible? Are there any teams out there with servicable backup C and PGs? If not, go for a player who is comparable to Brooks talent-wise, who can play C and then go fishing fora cheaper backup PG.

Do you guys see this as a valid option for Morey, or is it just not possible given the available players out there?

Lowry is 10x more replaceable than Brooks.

But Brooks stock is incredibly high. We can get some great pieces for him. Morey views his players as assets. He wouldn't become meotionally attached the way many of the CFers here are.

Brooks' stock is incredibly high because he is the far superior player. Lowry cannot start at PG for this team

Except for when you actually look at the numbers then the gap disappears.

Except not really. A PG can't start if he can't knock down open jumpers

If we get an "all-star" caliber PG (read: Chris Paul) in return, I would trade Brooks ...

lowry is good but to me AB will be an all star caliber player, he might even have a better year this upcoming season with all the help he is gona get, ariza started to improve a little with the addition of martin add yao to that chemistry and hopefully scola and where gona be a nightmare for teams. in the end if we dont match for lowry im confident morey will bring another good under sized back up point guard to the team.

don't panic, he'll get signed. if not, then DM must be confident that we'll get Rubio.

Oh then we should just sign Luther Head, right? I think he's available.

Everything that Brooks gives you in ability to shoot from outside he gives back on the other side of the ledger with his inability to play defense and his inability to draw fouls (something that Lowry is extremely good at).

That's why if you run the numbers their productivity is not very different despite Brooks shooting from range.

Worst idea i have ever heard.

The only way you trade away Aaron Brooks if you get an all-start caliber player in return. We're not getting one of those, so why would you start Lowry??

I'm not sure WHY people are so against Brooks being the starter. Are we weaker defensively? YEAH...but AB makes up for it by providing offense.

There will be NO surprise if AB's averages are 17ppg, 8-9 assists per game.

He averaged just under 6 assists/game last season after the Kevin Martin deal...this is with CHUCK HAYES playing the BULK of the minutes at CENTER. You replace Chuck with Yao...i wouldnt be surprised if he's putting up close to 10+ assists every night.

A PG averaging 17+ ppg, and 8+ apg is VERY difficult to replace. Only 4 other PGs in the NBA had those numbers last year...Nash, D. Williams, Chris Paul, and Rajon Rando. That's a pretty ELITE class of PGs.

You keep your better players, they may resign Lowry, but when Llull is to come over, Lowry will be a goner.

    trading him for what?

He's on rookie salary so what would you trade him for?

Maybe a Battier Brooks, Jeffries/Brooks Package for a star player?

Other than that you don't save any money anyways.

Why would you believe this? Yao doesn't really require a high percentage of assists on his FGA's, it was 57% for the last season in which we had data which is slightly lower than Scola and a lot less than say, Jordan Hill or David Andersen (who can't really create their own shot. Not only that, but Yao's plodding nature may slows down pacign which is going to drive everybody's raw numbers down.
