They had one in January, one in April, and one about two weeks ago. I'm not sure when the next one is, but you can call/email them and find out.
1. i'm not talking about going fast with operations and building...no problem there. i'm talking about how quickly funding comes in. 2. i hope you're right...it would be nice to have that in the area. however, i don't think you're right. i think money is way too tight for this. you're still raising money and talking about doing a groundbreaking at the same point.....i don't see it. not in this financial/economic climate.
That's where you're wrong. They are already building a Cracker Barrel at 59 and Northpark. But seriously, good info Scarface. Be sure to keep us updated.
I'm surprised the new pictures weren't posted here earlier: Spoiler Model: - these shots were taken at a meeting in January, IIRC.
I have to agree with this. I can't imagine a theme park project raising funds AND breaking ground in the same year. That just doesn't make sense.
And the renderings: Spoiler The park is divided into six different sections, each with their own theme (all dealing with Earth): Gateway: Land: Life: Sky: Water: Pangea: Green Gadget Garage: - this is similar to Disney Quest in Orlando (but bigger it seems) EarthQuest Institute: http://www.earthquestadventures.com/test/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/institute_large.jpg EarthWalk - similar to the Universal Studios CityWalk http://www.earthquestadventures.com/test/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/earthwalkmed.jpg Resort Hotel: http://www.earthquestadventures.com/test/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/hotel_large.jpg And this was posted by someone at another forum. They explained it better than I ever could: Spoiler
what is this!?! How are people going to be entertained if they cant even fit through the gates?! Spoiler
They just want to make sure that they have enough financial backing as possible before breaking ground on this thing (which will be by the end of this year...so six months or so). The economy is what hurt/delayed the project, but they kept moving forward (releasing more info and collecting a lot more money then they had expected). I have faith, and hope it'll be under construction soon. The fact that this thing is getting more publicity can only be a good thing. More people know about this thing than even two months ago.
They've been dead silent for months approaching a year....yesterday's Chronicle blog was the first real broad publicity here in quite a while. Leading many of us here to believe the project was entirely dead (read back a few pages through the thread). I brought this thread back from the dead about a month ago, bumping it and asking if anyone had heard anything new on it. And yesterday's blog was nothing more than a recount of the same information we'd already heard....no new news. No scheduled groundbreaking for 2010, with 6 months to go.
Actually, there was an article about this thing in the Houston Business Journal a while back, and before their story yesterday evening, ABC13 (or it may have been KHOU), had a story on it a few months back. This is just the first time the Houston Chronicle has covered it. It's been in the community papers up in New Caney for a while. And apparently there is some excavation being done on the land where the actually theme park will be on. Not ground breaking, but work is being done nonetheless.
I'm certain it's being covered quite extensively in New Caney....it's spotty AT BEST everywhere else. There is no promotional push here that has been meaningful, because there isn't much to report. That's bad news for a development like this.
Tell this to the Houston Zoo. The EarthQuest design team has already met with them to setup partnerships. Why? EarthQuest is going to have live animal exhibits (similar to Busch Gardens). Should be a good partnership.
 Not what I'm talking about at all. Partnerships with the Houston Zoo aren't gonna fund a park you're equating with Busch Gardens or Disney. I'll leave it alone....I really hope this all works out and they magically find funding and break ground all in the next 6 months.
Yeah, it's not going to fund a park, but the fact that they are reaching out to Houston area organizations now is a start, nonetheless. We'll see.
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/7107178.html "The $500 million project was also stalled by the sluggish economy, but now organizers are hoping to have financing by year's end and construction completed by 2013."
