Yeah but it is really more reflective of the direction the U.S. economy as a whole is heading. If you ain't in the health field or your work is somehow related to servicing health professionals, you are pretty much **** outta luck when it comes to future job security.

With the annihilation of the manufacturing industry in America, it looks like the U.S. will one day amount to nothing more than one giant health care provider for the wealthy of the world and the well-insured. Well, maybe we will still have some IT jobs left over, but even those jobs are steadily disappearing overseas. Wall Street and the financial sector is shrinking and likely will never again fully recover to prior to this recession.

It says something when the medical center is the only place building and expanding in a city considered the energy capital of this nation.

you were definitely in historic SE dallas. the cotton bowl, state fair, music venue, and museums are all down there. i've been lost down there numerous times, it's kind of like a rite of passage to get lost down there.

as for this article, when it says larger than downtown dallas, does that mean in jobs per sq footage? while it'd be awesome to be able to claim that, it'd be even cooler if we got a few supertall skyscrapers taller than they currently have.

Houston is known all over the world for the Medical Center. It is an incredible asset for the city and those living there that goes far beyond just providing world class care and treatment. My father lived at least another 25 years simply because he had the old fashioned kind of Blue Cross/Blue Shield and maxed the deductible every year, so he could see anyone he wished. His surgeon was Denton Cooley (some of you will know who he is), and his regular MD/cardiologist was Dr. Faber McMullen, who recently passed away... a truly great man who became my father's friend as well as doctor. Count your blessings, Houstonians, the Medical Center is fantastic.

What's the black building dead-center of the pic ryan_98 posted? It looks like it may be Ben Taub a couple of buildings in front of it and Hermann to the right.

Wow, that pic brings back a lot of memories. Somewhere near there was the first apartment my family lived in when we first came to America, the hospital that my mom worked at for around 30 years, etc.

It's a shame that there isn't more freeway capacity for the medical center. If you live in the north or in the south, it's hard to come and go. You are limited to only 59 and 288, where as downtown has access from Memorial, I-10, 45, 59, and 288.

It's horrible on 288 from 610 to beltway 8, especially during the school year. It has too many mergers right after 610.

It's even worse leaving the medical center to go north on 59 to anywhere north. There are 6 lanes that narrow down to only 3, after the Spur-527 split.

I guess you're not a big sports guy. Cotton Bowl and Gerald J. Ford (SMU) Stadium are in Dallas.

TCU is located in Fort Worth.

no it's true. every black person in a predominately black neighborhood hates white people and would have likely murdered you for no reason what so ever.

Seriously though, if you were afraid of black folks in DALLAS (Dallas ****ing Texas), I'm not sure your Houston card shouldn't be revoked.

lulz, i'm not afraid of "black folks", just thought it was funny, because I hear comedians joke about MLK blvd usually being in the ghetto, so when I saw Malcolm X Blvd I was like "oh man, if MLK Blvd is ghetto... whats Malcolm X blvd?"

Sorry if my poorly executed joke offended anyone. I guess I should have known better.

I lived in Dallas for two years and I can assure you that Dallas has it's fair share of shady areas...and their crime rate is higher than ours
