The Yao centric system, ie the group of players around Yao that make this team a contender as is, was a 42 win team last year. Which is to say they were average at best. With Yao, or some other low post center, you become a way better team, a contender even. By simply swapping Yao with Paul you have a good team, not great, and probably bow out of the playoffs in the first round.

And in this scenario, you dont just simply add in Paul, you trade him for a ton of the pieces that make us good. By adding Paul you would strip yourself of a ton of those supporting pieces and reduce the effectiveness of the rest. All that for two years? No thanks.

Why cannot Rockets trade Yao for a star player?

That's the only way to get Houston on the map of USA.

If Yao wasn't Chinese, would he still be with the Rockets?

Why is this even a conversational piece here? The rockets would have to strip their roster as some of you may have suggested (Brooks + Martin + C-Bud + Hill + 2 future first round picks + the kitchen sink) and thankfully there are intelligent people like Morey who control these decisions. After all why gut the team of assets for a guy who doesn't want to be here- a guy ho will leave when his contract is up?

trade yao, it would give morey so much more to work with.

instead, he's bound to yao like some sort of obligation instead of an asset.

That may happen, but not until the end of this season.

You need stars to win. Not a 10 to 12 man roster deep of a bunch of role players. We've had a decade and a half of disappointment and mediocrity, enough is enough. I want to see the Rockets become champs again before we all die.

Bring in the stars cause we won't stand a chance with this lineup of role players and semi stars against LeBron, Wade, Bosh, and their bench which has become surprisingly solid so far and would only get better in the next year or so.

What has New Orleans won? They have been terrible.

    YOU NEED BOTH.

You may need stars to win, but having them doesnt mean you automatically win, which is the whole point.

Do you even know Daryl Morey? Do you still remember whe he got Kevin Martin, Jordan Hill, Jared Jeffries and two future 1st rd picks for Carl Landry and a washed up, one-legged player? Do you honestly think he would give up that much based on his track record? Trust me man, he damn knows what he's doing and he's pretty good at it.

the problem is that Chris Paul is just aiming at teams without a good Point Guard right now. He doesnt want to disrespect Aaron Brooks by saying he wants to go to the Rockets when he knows that Aaron Brooks will have to be included in that deal.

Imo yes. Yao is an elite player when healthy and morey understands elite players are insanely difficult to acquire. He also is an amazingly hard worker and great teammate unlike tmac, so there is no major reason to move him.
