How did New Orleans do in the playoffs last year? See, it is not so simple......he is a better player yes, but if you have to give up too much, it will not make that much of a difference. Look, whatever, he is not coming here, this is just another pie in the sky off season thread. DD
LOL - Paul is a more efficient scorer and has averaged 11 dimes a game in the last 3 seasons. Brooks + fillers + picks makes us considerably better. It's not even arguable.
They're gonna lose him for nothing eventually. Throw in Hill and another young player. Who knows what DM is capable of? Anyways, we can't expect a deal until the deadline.
I tend to agree that getting a signed extension would be a pre-requisite, assuming we don't get a Pau Gasol like steal of a deal. That being said the Hornets may be able to convince Chris that adding the Rocket's is in his best interest if it is a matter of going to the Rockets or staying where he is. The Hornets have leverage here as unlike Lebron and Bosh, Paul is under contract for another 2 years. And most of the teams on his supposed dream list don't have much in the way of assets in comparison to the Rockets. Another thing to consider is that the Hornets might not be looking for Brooks in return for Paul. Darren Collision did a very good job as a rookie filling in for Chris Paul. As a starter he averaged 18.6 points and 9.1 assists per game, so the Hornets might be interested in some of our power forwards and wings along with draft picks instead. Likewise with other potential trade partners, the Hornets very likely could be looking for trades that do not bring a PG back in return.
Why? Paul has two years left on his contract. Hornets will have to get serious ludicrous offer for them to trade Paul to their division rival. In fact, the whole team of Rockets might not worth a Paul.
The only way a Paul deal would make sense is if Okafor were involved. Battier, Jeffries, Brooks, Hill, Andersen and the 2011 NY pick should do it. This sounds like a Morey deal.
I would have to agree that this is mostly about grabbing attention but the motive for this is to put himself in a similar situation as Lebron, Bosh, Wade to team up with other big names. I would definitely put New York #1 on the list here but not sure why the Lakers are mentioned other than just a starting point for negotiations. The reason why I say this is what would New Orleans want from the Lakers that they would be willing to give up other than Bynum. Which probably wouldnt be enough anyways for them to want to trade for. I see the best option for New Orleans to make him ride it out or sit the bench until the trade deadline to show him that they hold the cards. This will force his to consider other options with better assets like Houston. But no I do not think Paul would put Houston on his list of teams to play for before the trade deadline when he is more desperate to move. If he wants to be in a situation like Lebron and Wade, he is probably trying to team up with Amare, Melo, or someone like Roy. Do I think he should consider Houston... of course. Will it happen in this situation???... No not anytime soon at least. But people are forgetting here that New Orleans does not have to do anything here that they do not want to do and I assume there must be better assets thrown at them other than Anthony Randolph and Azabuke. Plus... New York has virtually NO DRAFT PICKS!!!!(thank you Morey)
the hornets will do what ever is best for the hornets. cross ny off and let us hope houston has the goods to make it reality!!!
I think it is quite simple. If Paul wants to be a Rockets for a long time and believes he can win with Adelman and Morey, I'd trade anything Hornets want to get him. If Paul does not want to be here, we'd better keep out of this mess.
I get nervous and anxious whenever Morey's quiet. What could he be up to, now that he's basically done with all his off season responsibilities.
I like the idea of Chris Paul coming here in a trade just as much as everyone else. That being said i would not want to trade away our depth just to obtain him. Our depth is what allows us to have a winning season without Yao on the floor and you need that for insurance going into next season.
Incoming Players Chris Paul 6-1 PG from Wake Forest 18.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 10.7 apg in 38.1 minutes Emeka Okafor 6-10 PF / C from Connecticut 10.4 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 0.7 apg in 28.9 minutes Outgoing Players Shane Battier 6-8 SF from Duke 8.0 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 2.5 apg in 32.4 minutes Jared Jeffries 6-11 SF from Indiana 5.5 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.6 apg in 28.1 minutes Trevor Ariza 6-8 SF from UCLA 14.9 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 3.8 apg in 36.5 minutes Jordan Hill 6-9 PF from Arizona 4.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 0.3 apg in 10.5 minutes Aaron Brooks 5-11 PG from Oregon 19.6 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 5.3 apg in 35.6 minutes It's time to make the deal guys. This trade would make us much better and is very realistic to happen, due to his status as a free agent. He would love it here. In addition to the above trade, I would also trade kyle lowry to the Cavs for Gaurd/Forward Anthony parker, which is a deal that would also cut back a little on payroll due to Lowry being a BYC1 player. Signing Chris Quinn as a backup 3 point shooting point gaurd would help. Here is my Rotation with minutes per game. Starters: PF - Scola (32mpg) SF - Parker (32mpg) C - Yao (30mpg) SG - Martin (37mpg) PG - Paul (38mpg) Bench: PG - Quinn (10mpg) SG/SF - Budinger (22mpg) SF/PF - Patterson (21mpg) C - Miller (18mpg) I think this would Catapult us to the the top 3 in the West.
that would actually be pretty entertaining. I'd be ok with watching him rot on the bench for 2 years.
If Morey went all out trying to acquire Bosh when we have Scola then why wouldn't he go after the best PG in the NBA even it means trading Brooks? Been waiting for a star to cash in on our assets right? Now is the time to pounce. Landing CP3 would also open a bunch of windows of opportunities for our team.
