Yao was on Channel 2 again today. He said he was excited about the asian community in Houston and the Rocket he'd most like to meet is Steve Francis . He actually spoke in engish saying he still needs to train, in reference to him being NBA ready, and also that reporters in china are smaller but has to face them here.

Jjeff, your beloved Fox 26 :) had nothing more from Vancouver than Channel 2 last night. Did THEY send someone to Vancover thinking THEY were gonna get the exclusive?? In fact, it appeared to me Steve Mark was the only reporter attempting to get Yao to speak. They showed Yao preparin to talk to him at the hotel when the coach or someone not pictuerd instructed him not to. Instead of bashing Ch 2 maybe you should get on the cases of 11, 13, and 39. From what I've seen they've completely ignored Yao in Canada.
As mentioned here, Channel 2 DID talk to Yao today...along with other media it appeared. Yao spoke briefly in both English and Chinese. I thought the funniest part was when he said the media in China are a lot shorter. They mentioned having another report tonight at 10pm with an interview with Rudy who is up there to watch Yao. I'm sure your Fox station will have a similar report from Vancouver. os

Jeff, yes CBS national news is the worst, but their local sports coverage is DEFINITELY the worst. There isn't a doubt. I've been watching all 5 local stations and comparing for the last few months. I'd rank it like this:

    Overall:
    Fox 26
    ABC
    NBC
    WB
    CBS

    Rockets:
    Fox
    NBC
    WB
    ABC

    BIG GAP

    CBS

When it comes to Rockets coverage, FOX is way ahead of anyone. When it comes to overall coverage FOX is still way ahead. Before the draft, Fox would show different players working out for at least a clip, would have more sound bytes from the players and coaches, and also did a better job after the draft. Berman constantly reported on how Yao's negotiations were going before and after the draft, but also showed clips of Cuttino, Mo, Terence, Tierre, and Steve working out at Westside, etc.

NBC actually has a Sports Sunday Show, ABC actually has Extra Points. What does CBS have? Nothing, but Giff Nielsen...WOW...Have you seen their pathetic excuse for a HS School sports show. It's so transparent and full of fluf that it's unbelievable. Freaking Channel 55 has a show TEN times better.
Anyways, CBS practically ignores Rockets news, and their other sports coverage isn't too great either.

At least CBS was interviewing Texans players everyday, but ABC did that as well plus they had post-game shows, etc.

I can see why you'd hate NBC's local news in general. It is very annoying and pathetic often. The Houston Press has ripped them numerous times, but their sports coverage is still much better than CBS.

Oh yeah, and Lisa isn't too shabby, but Dominique is just fine...

Tozai, Both 11 and 13 lack sorely in their Rockets coverage. Both 26 and 2 give more Rockets stories than anyone. Ch 2 actually gave scores and stats from Yao's tournament games after the draft...something no other station did from what I was able to see. I think Jeff lets his hatred for Ch 2 news bleed over to their sports coverage which isn't fair, imo. I've said it before, the are the only station to give the Comets some love (for what it's worth). Maybe that's because Wraggie does WNBA games for NBC but who knows? From what I've seen only 2, 26 and the Chronicle have sent reporters up to Vancouver to cover Yao's first visit to North America since the draft. Just to see this guy actually talk in English last night was awesome. I'd be willing to bet the other stations try to play catchup when Yao finally makes it to Houston. os

    CBS has Rockets coverage? haha

Yeah I agree, I had put FOX as #1 and NBC as #2 for Rockets coverage, but WB actually did a decent job during the draft showing clips of player workouts and highlights after games.

Do you work for NBC or something? ABC doesn't have the best Rockets coverage, but their overall sports coverage is better than NBC.

Yes, my real name is Hannah Storm. Actually, each station has their pluses and minuses. I really dont have a favorite. I'm a habitual channel changer...I try to catch all sports shows when I can. I usually don't watch WB only because I foget it's on. os
