There's no easy solution to Yao's case. He may be taller but a lot of the other centers are stronger than him; it's hard to be consistent if you always get outpowered by your guard. Constant pushing drains a lot of your energy, gets you outbalanced and most often adversely affects your shooting. Very frustrating when that happens, especially if a lot of people expect you to dominate or at least contribute consistently.

Perhaps at this stage Yao must constantly fight it out every time, he cannot choose his spots. When on the floor he must try every time to score, grab loose balls, rebounds and so on. He must push before he gets pushed, he'll have to learn this or else everyone will just try to overpower him, he won't get respect. Finese will come over time when you master all the facets of the game. Yao must realize that he cannot dominate yet, he must take advantage of every small opportunity given to him. As they say it's OK to make mistakes while you're young, in his case while he is still young in the NBA. At this point he must try to score every time he has the ball, try to put up at least 20 attempts if he can depending on what the defense gives him whether it be putting it up from his left, right or a fadeaway. He won't be able to dunk it every time, he just doesn't have the strength. Yao may not have enough stamina now but he can only improve on it by pushing himself everytime.

    Steve Francis is right on:

"I think there are times when he should turn around and just dunk the ball. A lot."

I sometimes wish that Yao didn't have his array of shots and fundamental moves. I sometimes wish that he was just a brute, athletic force so that all he could do is overpower opposing players and dunk on those fools. 100% power - 0% finesse. And that like Shaq, he would develop post moves over the years until he got to be 50% power - 50% finesse, like Hakeem.

Yao's too in love with his "skills", he makes the game harder on himself, and harder on his teammates.

Good points. I wonder why he didn't establish his position on his favorite side of the basket. Was that part of JVG's plan? I doubt it.

Yao needs to lose some weight probably, he seems slower than last year.
