Yeah, I'm lying about having been in California, which is why my user name is Cal (California), Tex (Texas) and 2 (just added on since the first message board I was on already had a Caltex in the system). Like I said, I was visiting my Dad who still lives out there at the time. Anyways, what a joke, you don't know me or how old I am (26 by the way).
"Like I said, I was visiting my Dad who still lives out there like he did at the time." Sorry, that's how that should read. It's annoying that you can't edit your post here. Regardless, you can quiz my on Rocket's history, especially from 1993-94 onward and I guarantee you I could show how big a fan I've been.
Off the top of my head without research, he was drafted in 1994 I believe (if not 1993) and was mostly an injured reserve player though he occasionally got sparring playing time and only played here 2-3 seasons at the most. Anything else you want to ask me, like how Lisa Malowski used to host the halftime show on UPN 20 or Murphy's Law during the pre-game show when he'd go over the Rockets keys to the game or how so many viewers would send Calvin cookies and he would thank them on air? Yeah, this conversation should be over, I've been a fan for almost 20 years.
ANOTHER BROTHER proposed a different phrase, I remember: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=101319
See, it's not a matter of even being offened. The problem, no pun intended, is that the joke is extremely old and not creative yet people think they're being so witty by continuing to say it. It's like trash talking with someone in real life and using the same joke over and over again. You gotta mix it up. Something "Houston, you have...uh, the Astros" would be new and would have made me laugh.
Reminds me of a Dali quote: "The first man to compare the cheeks of a young woman to a rose was obviously a poet; the first to repeat it was possibly an idiot." The first sports journalist to use it had a clever headline; all the rest used a tired joke.
Wow Swoly you never cease to amaze me. That was a really cool time. It felt good to raise money for a worthwhile cause. We did over 5000.00 is t-shirt sales and Bill Worrell suggested adopting the phrase for the upcoming season but those conversations eventually fizzled. I remember driving all over town delivering t-shirts and collecting individual 25.00 donations, I never even took gas money for the effort. Thanks again to all the CC.net folx who supported.
