If Shaq goes east it can be argued that we don't need a true backup Center. So until Shaq gets settled into a new home I think we lay low. Now if he does stay in the West then I tend to agree, we need a backup center.

The back up center will play about 12 mins a game.

The starting PG will play around 30.

Now try and tell me a BACKUP center is more important than a starting 1 that can drain an outside shot.

    Howard the Duck?

Man, what about Leonard Part 6? In 1987 Bill Cosby was like a television god, a concert must-see, a gold record hit maker, and finally he makes a movie and it's so bad even the Cosby kids won't go see it.

Oh yea, how's your point guard's season gonna look if Yao gets planter fasciitis?

If Houston has a problem then imaging what LA is going through now, Coah K just turned them down, Shaq still wants to be traded, Kobe might still go to jail or somewhere else...Life is a b*tch isn't it?:D

Yao was really aggressive on that play, imaging he had the stamina to do it everytime down low..., backup C would not be a problem at all.

If I recall, Cato got burned when he played power forward. KG, Duncan, K Martin, Nowitzki, Gasol.......the list goes on. I never understood why JVG did that. Don't hate me for saying this but if Eddie was still here, we'd be set. Under JVG, Eddie would have flourished as a defensive presence. Bottom line is, Howard is just as good as Cato when playing power forward. Cato at center would be a different story.

    DeAleck, that was too funny.

Thats sorta like the valedictorian at my sister's high school that used "Once in a while, you get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right" in her graduation speech and said it was a Sublime quote.

Back to the thread.....if FA goes poorly, Howard can play C at times.

Isn't it an unwritten rule that posters will never use the phrase "HOUSTON ! We Have a Problem ! !" or face a lifetime banishment?

    If not, it should be.

Everytime I see that clip, I can't help fantasizing about how dominant Yao can be if only he had the stamina to play like that consistently. Hopefully he will be there one day.

    Sorry Folks:

I worked at NASA, in the CCATS area of BLDG. 30, at the time and I think I earned the right to say it !

I agree with you completely. My thread was not praising Cato, he was a stop gap. Detroit threw 3 centers (BWallace, Okur, and Eldon Campbell) at Shaq plus RWallace could slide over and effectively double-team. Howard is 6'9" and 230 lbs, thats 30 lbs less than MoT, and Spoon is 270 but only 6' 7". Shaq would toss 'em around like rag dolls. Like it or not the road to the champion- ship is probably paved through Shaq. We would also have trouble with other teams with dominant big men.

The Rox are built like Dolly Parton, all front and no back.
