Yeah, because that's what he was before he got injured.

    Oh, wait.

That brief mention of Houston is old recycled info from last offseason when we were still searching for a starting pg. I wouldn't place much significance in it.

This simply isn't true. That year in Chicago, he couldn't shoot, couldn't run the team well and was a turnover machine. He eventually lost his starting job to Jamal Crawford. Anyone who lost jobs to Crawford had some serious problems.

Of course, he still has potential, but it is certainly shadowed by the injury. When players get injuried seriously, sometimes they lose a major part of their athletic ability. Guys like Penny Hardaway, Chris Webber and Grant Hill never fully recovered from their injuries. I hope he will recover, and the Rockets try him out. But to say he was better than Sura and James now before his injury is simply false. And I have a hardtime imagining he will get back to his pre-accident shape, after nearly getting paralyzed.

(Adapted from a scene in Shawshank Redemption)

    -- SHAWSHANK HEARINGS ROOM -- DAY (1967)

Jay Williams enters, sits. 3 years older than when we first saw him.

    MAN #1:
Your file says you've served one and half years of a recovery. You feel you've been rehabilitated?

    silence ...

    MAN #1:
    Shall I repeat the question?

    Jay Williams:
I heard you. Rehabilitated. Let's see now. You know, come to think of it, I have no idea what that means.

    MAN #2:
Well, it means you're ready to rejoin NBA as a--

    Jay Williams:
I know what you think it means. Me, I think it's a made-up word, a politician's word. A word so young fellas like you can wear a suit and tie and have a job. What do you really want to know? Am I sorry for what I did?

    MAN #2:
    Well...are you?

    Jay Williams:
Not a day goes by I don't feel regret, and not because I'm in here or because you think I should. I look back on myself the way I was...stupid kid who had that terrible accident...wish I could talk sense to him. Tell him how things are. But I can't. That kid's long gone, this old man is all that's left, and I have to live with that.
    (beat)
"Rehabilitated?" That's a bull$hit word, so you just go on ahead and stamp that form there, sonny, and stop wasting my damn time. Truth is, I don't give a $hit.

Don't get too excited. I think I read somewhere that he still needs another surgery on his knee (and another rehab period) before he can return to the court. Jason Williams was great in college because of his explosive first step and penetration abilities. I don't know how much of that he has left. The kid was never a great pure shooter.

I seem to remember he took a page out of Shaq's free throw shooting instructional book.

I think the relevance of this article pertains more to Van Gundy's displeasure with Mike James as a point guard. As well as he can score, he's got way too much stevie in him for VG to tolerate. If a roster move like this were to take place, I could forsee James being traded.

I doubt JVG's that mad with James. James is a 6th man. Having a scoring point-guard as the 6th man is a great idea. He provides scoring punches that alter the tempo of the game. However, if your starting pg is a scoring first guy, then you have a problem.

No teeny-bopper action till the whole board is screaming and fainting in awe of him. I have my standards.

We can move Sura to the 2 spot, and James is a 2 guard as well. With Jay.Will, Sura, MJ, D.Wes, and Barry we can play 5 guard rotation, all of them can do both 1 and 2. I think that will be a good situation considering that Sura, D.Wes and Barry are well over 30.

James is scoring first guard, which isnt necessary bad. I dont think Gundy is mad at him. Gundy knows his personnel. We do need a guard that can read the situation a little better, so Jay.Will might be a fit here. We do need him to do too much.

Yeah, to me his game has 6th man written all over it.

You want some scoring punch off the bench. And man, Mike James is FAST. He gets in the game and IMMEDIATELY pushes the tempo. Total spark plug. How can you not love that guy as 6th man off the bench?

You got all of this from the article? The only reason why Houston is mentioned in the article because Jay Williams said we would be one of his choices.

Also, that part was taken from an article that was written a long time ago when we had a glaring hole at PG. Whether it is still true or not, it has nothing to do with JVG or Mike James, its just a players preference.

I'm sure JVG would rather have Mike James pass more, but I don't think he is having any problem with having a backup PG scoring 13ppg while shooting 41% from 3-point land.

If he can run, bring him in...he once had a triple-double against Jason Kidd his first season. There is a lot of potential there. Lock him up with a 6-year contract at a low price. Gives him security and gives us the upside. Would be a fair deal.

    A 6-year deal?

This is still a kid who had a near fatal accident and has nerve damage in his leg. I'd hesitate to give a quality NBA player a 6-yr deal, let alone one who hasn't played basketball in over 2 years.

A 3-4 year deal w/ team option would be fine. :)

You're right, DeAleck. Jay Will was a really good college player, and he has don't anything prior to his accident that proves he's a good PG yet. A lot of his game is based on his athleticism. I am not sure how much the accident did to him physically. I think we should give him a try out or something. If he is still as good as before the accident, he got the potential to be a good guard.
