The only good news is that maybe Fertitta will realize the god complex doesn't work after a lackluster season. you hire the best coach, not the coach who will stay.. and that his god complex shifts such that the Rockets and Cougars can acquire the best talent going forward and put less emphasis on loyalty.

Todd Orlando, Major Applewhite, Lane Kiffin & Les Miles were the four finalists IIRC.

Lincoln Riley's name was discussed early on. That said, I don't know if Miles, Kiffin or Riley would have accepted the job.

If I was in Lincoln Riley's position I would've picked OU over UH.

Lane Kiffin had a lot of baggage from what I recall.

Les Miles... probably. Age may be a factor, though.

I personally preferred Orlando over Applewhite, but OC's usually get the nod. It may be a recruiting decision. I remember Applewhite's hire being well-regarded among Texas high school football coaches and it really sold a lot of recruits on solidifying their commitment with UH. I remember Ed Oliver immediately tweeting about being happy about hiring a coach from within that they were already used to, and preferred Orlando or Applewhite.

I would have rather had Les Miles and hope he picked a good OC. I dont think he was ever being seriously considered though.

Would have rather picked Orlando if we were going internal.
