Texans would have had the tie breaker over the Browns who played the Steelers (twice), Ravens (twice),then also the Patriots, Jets, Falcons, Saints, Chiefs, Bucs, and Jags. That's a lot teams with winning records. Damn I feel sorry for Colt having to mature as QB in hurry with all those tough games. An easier schedule next year combined with a new competent coach, a #1 receiver maybe AJ Green with that 7th pick, and the Browns might make a decent run at the playoffs.

we would have drafted at the sixth slot

and teams with the lower SoS win the tie-breaker. was surprised to see us jump the Vikings bc they had the lower SoS the week before.

edit: this is first updated mock I could find..

Since it's confirmed we'll be drafting 11th now, does anyone think we should try to trade up to get one of the better defensive players out there who can make more of an immediate impact, or trade down if we can't get a player who wouldn't take long to develop?

We're in no position to trade draft picks away since there are many holes to fill.

Doesn't matter with Rick Smith. He can screw it up from any position. 10 to 20.

Yeah they need a player on every line of their defense and since this regime is likely staying you figure there will be at least one TE drafted also.

I have the same reasoning. At least in top 8 there's enough "sure thing" type guys that going by any half moron's draft sheet they wouldn't miss. Probably around 10 they try to get cute and show how creative their board is.

Hmm..well that's not happening. Kubiak said that they're bringing OD back. As they should bc he showed glimpses of his old self in the last few weeks.

so they'll only use their last three picks on a tight end.

Would you trade our first plus either Jacoby Jones, Antuan Molden, Steve Slaton, Conner Barwin, Antone Caldwell, Ben Tate, or Earl Mitchell to move up? These have been Ric Smith's 2nd and 3rd round picks during his tenure.

I'd rather package our 1st and 2nd to move up and pick a sure fire stud player because we know our 2nd round pick is not going to amount to anything.

Since it's Bleacher Report, that mock isn't worth much, but if it played out like that 1-10, Ric Smith should thank God that Prince Amukumara fell into his lap. He is a stud at the position that the Texans need the most help.

Not to pick on you, but this line of reasoning drives me nuts. People have said the exact same thing year after year and all we've done is draft bust after bust.

If we have a chance to move up to select a difference maker like Peterson, I'd be all for it.

Yeah..let's keep drafting busts like Kareem Jackson or Okoye instead of trying to trade up and get a star. Just look at our last draft. Which guys have made a positive impact?

I don't think there has ever been a draft year I can recall where several highly touted players didn't drop from their projected value slot. Some people may be in panic mode because we're out of the top 10, but players will drop. Sometimes even the most unlikely ones.

This isn't the NBA. Moving up just doesn't happen very much unless it's for a quarterback. We need a DT, LB, CB, FS, WR..you can even add an offensive linemen to the list. Some of it will be obviously addressed through free agency.

And I don't think we've continually drafted busts. AJ, Mario, Demeco, Dunta, Cushing, OD, Winston, Brown, Quin. We have unproven players on the roster with potential. Barwin and Tate are the main ones that come to mind. I wouldn't declare them busts just yet.

Btw, I wanted AD in the worst way. It was ridiculous that he even slipped to 6.

Could've have had stars in both those drafts picking where we were. Patrick Willis or Darelle Revis (I think) instead of Okoye and Dez Bryant instead Kreamed Jackson.

We went potential with Okoye over experience and almost sure fire contributor in Willis, And went with our guy  over pure talent last year.

Which just proves Kubiak is capable of out thinking himself off the field as well as on it. Hindsight is hindsight, but even a pro internet GM like my self would have out drafted Kubiak in both instances

Why on earth would we draft Willis a MLB, when Demeco was just coming of a Defensive Rookie of the Year season? Dez Bryant was never a option! Your point would be better if you said they should've picked McCourtey! Hindsight is one thing, but whats the point when those players mentioned were never option due to team needs!
