That kind of goes with what the guys on NFLN were saying. That a lot of teams took him off their board completely because "they didn't like what the guy was about". The he wasn't really committed. That he had 2nd round talent but these other factors had some projecting he'd drop all the way to the 6th.

How do I keep saying it...when it was the first time I said it tonight?

I hope I'm wrong here. I'm not panning the Hopkins pick at all. But I'm awfully disappointed with what we're coming away with tonight, and you can't hope to bring in loads of immediate help on day 3 in the draft.

[rquoter]To expand on a post from yesterday, we’ve been hearing since October that Sam Montgomery/DE/LSU was not receiving rave reviews from his college coaches. More to the point I was told the LSU coaches have been slamming him. Montgomery’s attitude and personality did not sat well with a number of his former teammates or coaches.[/rquoter]

I'm sorry you feel that way. Me personally, I feel we have starters already (except at WR and RT), and we're drafting for depth in this draft. We are a contending team you know. Hell, I think Swearengen is going to be a fantastic player for this team.

Im not sure about this pick. I think he's more of a 4-3 DE. Will be interesting if he can successfully convert to an 3-4 OLB. My gut feeling is it will not be an easy transition.

Antonio Smith is gone after next year. Montgomery was drafted to take his place IMO.

Are you questioning Wade's ability to evaluate DE/OLB talent?

Which available prospects at the time of the picks do you think would have been better and serve as bigger impact?

lol. Compare the articles above with what DJ Swearinger said about Sam Montgomery back in 2012 :

    http://www.indexjournal.com/main.asp?SectionID=5&SubSectionID=41&ArticleID=9231

"Sam is a beast," said South Carolina free safety D.J. Swearinger, who was one of Montgomery's teammates at Greenwood. "That's the only way you can say it. Sam goes 110 percent no matter who he's playing and no matter what you tell him to do. He goes full speed and nobody can stop him."

Well Em, you should be happy. Herring says they see Montgomery as their starter at OLB. Wade says they see Swearinger as a starter in their defense.

That's at least 3 hopeful starters, and the RT kid will compete for a starting spot as well.

Not a big fan of Sam Montgomery, and not just because I hate LSU. The guy doesn't seem like the normal high-character guys the Texans usually go for.

I'm hoping the Texans can grab up the TE Sims out of Mich State, and OLB Chase Thomas out of Stanford tomorrow. I wouldn't complain about a QB either.

So this means Brooks Reed will move to ILB?

I don't know what it means exactly as I'm only getting this from twitter reports of what Herring is saying. It might mean they don't see Whitney as a starter.

I've learned not to question Wade, but I don't know, he doesnt look to have that fast twitch in his step that makes for a great pass rusher off the edge. We shall see.

    Mayock's take on Montgomery pick:

[rquoter]"Now that's really interesting pick. He's a guy who on tape is a solid, solid second-round pick. But a lot of teams didn't like his interview process. Teams didn't like his profile as far as who the kid was and what he was all about. They weren't sure he was focused on football, and a lot of teams quite frankly took him off the board. From a football perspective, the Texans just got a steal."[/rquoter]
