If I was betting, I will say J. hunter...just solid in all areas. Not who I want but just who I think.
The Star Power is of course tonight The real team building is tomorrow the human interest picks are Saturday, local kids, Big 12 players, my sleepers
I don't really like Bray, he seems completely innacurate even for a college QB and he will be a major project for anyone that takes him on. I'd rather take a guy like Dysert if he happens to plummet into the 5th/6th rounds.
I'd love it, especially if we could imrpove (and double) our current position in those rds. It would give us more ammo and better bullets. From what I've read of the prospects at WR, I believe there to be just as much of a chance hitting on a WR in the 2nd or 3rd as we would have picking in the first. NFLNW, no Berman, no Kiper YAY!
I think the smart choice would be to grab a ILB with the FIRST pick! Look how far off our defense fell when we lost Cushing. We need to have someone to plug in to that spot, or next to Cush to slow down the bleeding if he does get hurt again. There will be quality WR's in the second round, and if I was going to trade up in the draft. Please try and grab Tavon Austin. Amazing athlete.
Dream Scenario: Trade 27 pick to 49ers - Get 49ers 31 and an extra 2nd or 3rd Select- Keenan Allen with 31 st selection... I really think Keenan Allan will be a steal in this draft
I dont know about steal of the draft, but I know earlier he was a top 10 selection this year. I never thought he would slip to 27. Between Allan,Hunter,Hopkin ill be happy.
Man, the more I think about it, the more the two Tennessee recievers really scare me. So much talent, but both seem to have a high chance at a spectacular flame out.
If the Texans do go WR, I'm thinking it's going to be Allen. His strengths just seem to line up with what the Texans value most.
What will be interesting to me will be if Matt Barkley falls. If he's still available when we pick in the second round, will Kubiak take him? He will, more than likely, have an NFL career that is similar to Matt Schaub's. And no, I don't mean we would draft him just to trade him. As for tonight, I think the Texans need to take advantage of one of the teams trying to trade up into the late first for a quarterback. A team like the Bills.* There is a good chance one of the receivers we want will be available in the early second. I feel like taking someone from that group late in the first is a waste, when they could be had early in the second, and you could end up with more picks. *I really hope the Bills get Geno Smith. It just seems like a good fit.
I don't know if the local radio stations talk about this, but in case people don't know, under the new CBA, it makes a whole lot of sense for teams at the start of the second round to trade up into the first to get the QB they want for a couple of reasons. First, the salaries are controlled under the CBA, and there isn't a huge gradient between a late first and early second's salary. But more importantly, first round picks essentially have an extra year on them for team control. Particularly for QB's and the huge potential contracts that come after that first rookie contract, that extra year to develop your guy and make sure you want to commit and lock in long term with a guy is huge. I would imagine that starting right around where the Texans are, teams at the start of the second are going to look to trade back up into the first to get one of the QB's. The first tier of QB's in this draft are all guys that would grade out as 2nd rounders at best in an ideal world. It would not surprise me if 2 or more teams trade up into the back end of the 1st to pick up Barkley or Nasib or Manuel or Smith. The only thing that would stop it IMO is if someone reaches even more and picks them sooner - remember 2 years ago when there were no QB's worthy of a first round pick outside of Cam Newton entering the night, but Gabbert, Locker, and Ponder were all gone by pick 12. If the situation unfolds in the right way, it might be wise for the Texans to entertain offers to drop back into the top of the second, picking up an extra 3rd or something similar, especially if they are determined, for instance, to go WR, and there are 3 or 4 guys with a similar talent level that they like who are still on the board, as appears possible.
If Andre Johnson gets injured, who becomes the WR1? If J.J. Watt get injured, who replaces his numbers?
WR talent in the 2nd is strong, and I have a feeling they will be selecting multiple WR's this draft.
Awesome, thanks for those little tidbits Otto. If anything I would love to trade down into the near early second and take Keenan Allen. I honestly believe he will fall into the second cause of his injury and slow 40 time.
