Eh? Call me a skeptic or stupid if you wish but Cordarelle seems like the biggest risk. Highest Ceiling, Highest floor.
Receivers in general tend to be riskier picks. I don't know the numbers, but I would bet a few dollars that position is towards the top in bust rate.
Good points made, the more I think on it, the more I feel NT is the way to go. Should get very good, safe talent at the draft spot.
On SR610 they were talking about mid round qbs and I didn't realize how good Tyler Bray is. If he stayed in school he could've been a top 5 next year. Hopefully the Texans can get him with the third round pick

Texans need to stop ignoring the WR position.. I think this is a huge mistake if they dont Draft a WR in the First .. They need to even consider to trade up and get Tavon Austin or Cordalle Patterson... Later Rounds WR's are there to be had, but you would have to hit jackpot... First Round talent might be a better chance to hit gold... I really think the Texans are a WR away from winning it all.. Can you just imagine Johnson having a good WR next to him.. Hes put up 1000 + yrds season we him being double team basically all his career... If teams have to worry about another threat, than Johnson will probably surpass Calvin Johnsons yards last yr...
After they started talking about Bray on 610 the other day I looked at a few of his scouting reports. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1737685/tyler-bray <object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pCaMP4XsiUY?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pCaMP4XsiUY?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object> With arm strength like that a team will take a flyer in him early, and I think the Texans would have to use their 2nd to get him. This is the type of guy I would like to see Kubiak coach up to be Schaub's replacement.
I heard them talking about him too on the drive home. We have so many needs so I don't know where a backup qb fits into our plans. After reading several reports on him, everyone says he has first round talent. If he drops to 3rd round, and thats big if then... I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on him.
Texans have 4 QBs(Schaub, Yates, McGee, Keenum) on the roster (and Schaub is their guy). I doubt they bring in any others. Maybe a 6th or 7th rounder at best.
The way he throw in the pocket reminds me of Matt Ryan from Atl. i think who ever gets him in few years he should be like Ryan. What i think is they should trade matt on draft day and pick up cousins from washington. and with cousins in his rookie contract we save alot of cap space for next year. and i dont think cousins is that bad. if he goes thru training camp i think he would be decent.
Let's be honest. McGee and Keenum (and maybe Yates) are not in the future plans of the Texans. The Texans could easily get rid of either one of them. McGee and Keenum are not going to prevent the Texans from drafting a QB if they found themselves in position to draft one they like. I'd say the bigger hurdle would be that they'd have to keep any drafted QB on the 53 man roster (and not the practice squad) and Kubes doesn't seem to like carrying 3 QBs. But we started off with 3 last year, though John Beck only lasted 4 games as a 3rd stringer. And we had 3 when we drafted Yates and he was the 3rd stringer. So it's not out of the question. If we draft a QB anywhere other than late, that's probably spelling the end for Yates, not this year but probably the next because I don't see Kubes wanting to carry 3 QBs for more than a season if he doesn't have to. If a drafted QB is meant to eventually overtake Schaub, they'd probably let him take over back up duties in year 2. Kind of what they did with Yates.
I agree completely with you. I think if we draft well this year, next year we would likely use an earlier pick for a QB. I cannot imagine us doing it this year. WR,ILB,OLB,NT and S are now positions that need upgrades and depth.
Call me crazy but I feel this draft is deep enough at receiver the Texans can wait til the fifth or sixth round and get a guy like Marcus Davis from Virginia Tech and be good. The guy is comparable to Dez Bryant talent and knuckle- headness
Generally speaking besides K/P/RB what positions are/can be addressed later in the draft? Do good ILBs generally go earlier than good WRs? Can you draft a NT or RG in round 3-4 and still expect to get a quality player? (If you can't tell my football knowledge is very much limited. Keenan Allen looks Jacoby Jones-ish, to me. )
ILB's often fall and high-impact ones can be found in rounds 2-3. They aren't a highly valued position. NT's seem to be a tough position to assess and they do drop if they are only 2-down players. Highly graded WR's fly off the board, the ones in this draft kind of seem to be packed together. WR's that go round 2 might be as good as ones available in round 4. G's aren't typically valued that highly. If you looked at our needs and wanted to assign a league-wide value to those positions (especially factoring in the long-term rookie capped deal) I would go with... WR, NT, RT, ILB but that can change so easily based on need. Also, I'd rank a tier 3 NT over a tier 3 WR since mediocre WR's are a dime-a-dozen. Also, a tier 2 WR isn't all that special either... in fact you might have to rerank positions and include the projected tiers.
