how about taking a shot at Brandon Jenkins in the 3rd round? http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1664503 it's a slim draft for rush OLBs
Normally, I'd agree. But the Texans haven't added a first round talent to the offense since 2008, and it's starting to show.
I agree. IMO that guy is Margus Hunt. He is a FREAK athlete (6'8" 277lb, 4.5 forty, defensive end, are you kidding me) who *could* be available based upon a lack of experience. I think he could do well with the extra attention that Watt will get.
I'm all for NT. Could pay huge dividends long-term, plus it's an easier position to contribute from early-on, especially next to Watt.
Texans beat writer John McClain is "convinced" the team will take a WR in the first-round. McClain recently mocked Clemson WR DeAndre Hopkins to the Texans at pick No. 27. Fellow Houston sports staple Barry Warner says the Texans "won't take" a receiver int he first round, and instead will target an offensive lineman, inside linebacker, or pass rusher. So basically, no one knows what will happen.
Wow, 2 of the biggest blow-hards in the history of Houston sports media are disagreeing here. Normally, I would take whatever either one of them says and believe the exact opposite.....but now I'm not sure how to handle this.
IMO, the only thing the Texans need and the only thing that will save them is drafting a more mobile QB.
It has to happen, but this year? ...a regarded bad QB year...maybe next year may be better to draft QB?
Kipper has his new mock draft out...and here is what he has for us... 27Robert Woods *Houston Texans (12-4) COLLEGE: USCAGE: 20HT: 6-1WT: 201POS: WR Analysis: Andre Johnson is now officially old by the standards of the position, and although effective, he needs some help. The Texans need to find a reliable route-runner who can create space both underneath and down the field in their scheme, which offers a steady diet of play-action passes and demands that receivers can set up defenders. Woods has extremely reliable hands and is underrated in his ability to stretch defenses over the top. The 2nd round he has us taking: 57. Houston Texans John Jenkins, DT, Georgia He moves incredibly well at 348 pounds and will help solidify the middle of that line.
I see Woods as a top-end #2 WR prospect, but there's likely to be several of those available all the way through the 2nd round. While it wouldn't be the worst use of a late-1st rounder, it certainly isn't a value pick. We'd likely be able to trade back and still get him, so i'd be pretty disappointed if we used the #27th pick on him. As for John Jenkins, he's slated to go anywhere from the 2nd to 3rd round in most mock drafts. I really like the guy and think that with the depth at the NT position in this draft, we'd have to be crazy not to address NT with one of our 4 picks in rounds 1-3.
This is a pick for need and not best available. I do not see the Texans taking Woods this early (at least I hope not). He is talented, but not 1st round talented.
WOW that seems laughable to me. Some have Hopkins as their top WR but I guess it just depends on the evaluator. Most of what I read indicates that Hopkins may not make it to 27.
Heard that there may be a run on pass rushers in the middle of the first round that could cause offensive guys to fall, one of those guys Corrdelle Patterson. The most complete recevier in the draft. I wouldn't mind if the Texans went receiver in the first round only if its for Patterson, otherwise Alec Ogletree or Kyle Long
Texans usually keep pretty tight lipped about their guys...Seems a bit smokescreeny that this would get out.
