MLB Network isn't much better. I was watching the highlights last night and the host didn't like the Astros. He made some joke about him being Gordon Gekko and that he wasn't buying the Astros. Stupid jerk!

It's one thing if an analyst says he's not high on the 'Stros, but having the host tear down the team like that really ticked me off.

Well tonight Fernando Vina had a special segment talking about Michael Bourn and how he manufactures runs for Houston. Karl Ravech also has been mentioning us as a big team to lookout for in the Nl central.

Espn.com has a video if you click "mlb"

its about Oswalt vs. Carpenter and how the rest of the division should worry about the astros and how good they are in the 2nd half

Yep, saw they. They also had a phone interview with Bourn, too... though you could hear lots of activity in the background on his end. :p

They also broke into live coverage of the Astros game when Lee was up with the bases loaded. The announcers, and particularly Leiter, were tearing into Carlos for being overpaid, etc. How he expected a player making $100MM to hit between 40-50 HR, drive in 130-140 RBI, and play a decent LF (pretty similar to what a lot of people say about Lee around here). Of course, El Caballo proceeds to hit a Grand Slam and all the guys could do was talk about how cheap a shot it was and how it'd be a pop up in any other park.

Oh well, I guess even though $100MM doesn't go as far as it used to go, Lee was brought here to do exactly what he's done hit over .300, 30+ HR, and 110+ RBI.

Hopefully, he gets white hot and goes on a big tear here.

it's pretty hard to argue lee's NOT overpaid; he is. but i don't think too many people "here" have a problem with him. sure, we'd like him to be a better fielder and at least look like he's trying 100% of the time - but from an offensive standpoint, he's been consistently very good (if not great) and i can't imagine anyone complaining about that. he wasn't brought here to shore of our defense...............

But what leadership does he bring? That's what this team needs.

Well, it was more of his attitude and tone of voice than the words he used. Again, if an analyst said those things it wouldn't have bothered me that much. That's what an analyst is supposed to do, even though most of them have no idea what they're talking about.

A host should be neutral and not give his opinion, especially if his opinion is negative.

From what you posted, it appears he just inferred that he didn't think the Astros would make the playoffs. If he is a "stupid jerk" for voicing that opinion, then the vast majority of sports commentators around the league are "stupid jerks".

Wow! The astros are the lead on baseball tonight again! They even had an interview with Coste.
